house Bill H. Res. 207

Creating a "National Strategic Agenda" With Goals for U.S. Progress

Argument in favor

These are ambitious goals, but they are worthwhile goals that are worth working towards as soon as possible. As President Kennedy once said, “the United States has to move very fast to even stand still.”

Reaching for the stars will at least get you off the ground. These goals are worthwhile bipartisan pursuits. AKA Hug a puppy bill.

This doesn't seem to actually do much of anything, but the sentiment of it seems fine.

We need an agenda but no one will agree on one

Argument opposed

How about setting goals to work across the aisle and actually pass legislation? What about tackling the problems at hand instead of inventing pie in the sky goals? Why does Congress have time to coordinate these ideas and not actually legislate?

Balance the budget by 2030? Are you fricking kidding me? We won't have a country if we run deficits till then. How about balance it THIS year and EVERY year? How about a balanced budget amendment? How about 0 base budgeting? How about using GAAP?

Americans do not agree on policies or goals, so why waste time with this bill? These topics are already debated and we've come to no agreement over the decades.

Stop presenting IDEAS and DO SOMETHING. Republicans had 8 years to obstruct true progress in these fields but apparently they were too busy focusing on that rather than whipping up some IDEAS that can't work.

Are these goals lofty? Yes. Are they obtainable? Maybe. But if congress has something set in stone saying that they will try their best to secure the future of our nation the this is a good thing. If you vote Nay, are you saying that when you have a large task in front of you that you don't make goals to keep yourself on task and motivated?

You were elected to do your best for the people of the U.S. NOW! Why talk about 2030 when we can't even get our acts together now? Come on.

The stated goals are badly needed! I haven't yet read how they would be implemented, though. But at least someone is thinking in the right direction!

Let's create real change. Congress isn't a Broadway show or needs to create Christmas wish lists.

I'm an entrepreneur. Never planned on social security being there. Instead of spending a gazillion dollars on a Nanny state legislation, why not invest some money in educating kids how to start a business, make money and manage it well?

While this sounds good, it seems like a waste of political capital & cooperation. Too many important issues have gone by the wayside so that certain legislative agendas - which only seem to waste valuable resources & increase America's frustration with the government - can be followed.

It should include goals for better infrastructure and clean energy.

I think these goals are an excellent way to hold Congress and the Executive branch accountable to their never ending platitudes and false promises. I'd rather a difficult yet worthwhile goal than one that sounds easy to achieve yet will never be talked about.

Resolutions are so cute! The House should already be working to balance the budget. Medicare & Social Security should be phased out of existence. The other goals, creating jobs & energy blah blah, can only be achieved by less action from government. "Political bickering" is OK - it prevents unnecessary government action and protects freedom.

We need to aim towards some goal that benefits us, even if we cant reach it we can try.
