house Bill H. Res. 15

Dear Pope Francis, You're the Best. Love, Congress

Argument in favor

Pope Francis is very influential across the country and the world. He's also the first pope to address Congress — it's the least the House can do.

Argument opposed

The House shouldn't be using their time and taxpayer dollars to vote on bills that praise religious figures. If you're proud of the pope, tell him on your own time.

The legislature should Stay out of these types of matters. If you want to congratulate him, write him a letter on your personal letterhead.

The Pope has great influence on US Catholic Citizens, who hold a sizable population in the Northeast. Besides that, it's a nice thing to do. Especially since he's the first to be born out of Europe.

If individual members of Congress want to gush over the Pope, that's one thing. But I resent Congress as a whole taking such an action. The Pope may represent Catholics; he doesn't represent anyone else who calls himself/herself a Christian.

As a Catholic, a republican and a supporter of the pope, I do not believe this should be a conversation. It is wonderful that he visited. It's wonderful that he spoke with congress. The church has forever been and will forever be socialist in nature. You will never find something or someone where you agree 100% with. As Ronald Reagan once said, "The person who agrees with you 80% of the time is a friend and an ally--not a 20% traitor." I do not agree with everything the pope says but I do wholeheartedly support him and his intentions. If you would like to congratulate him, please do this on your own time and with your own money. Not the tax payers.

The government shouldn't be spending tax payer money to even debate or vote on this

It must be costing us a fortune to keep him, our congress and all of Washington safe from some nut job, since there seems to be so many nut jobs out there these days. So the poor secret service and police have to do double duty. And who was so brilliant that the President of China and the Pope come to America on the same day.?????

There are more important things to consider on each of the floors such as a balanced budget. Why have a distraction from the real business. Stop Monkeying around and get down the the business at hand and fix this broken government.

I'm sorry, but the Pope should have no bearing on policy seeing as how he is not an American Citizen, and his views are purely that of Catholicism. I find it disturbing that congress and the Whitehouse expended so much time and tax payer dollars to his visit.
