house Bill H. Res. 127

Should the House Express Support for America’s Alliances with Japan & South Korea?

Argument in favor

The trilateral relationship between the U.S., South Korea, and Japan is key to the safety & stability of the Indo-Pacific region. Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that these relationships need to be protected may pressure the Trump administration to pay greater attention to these alliances.

This is just a resolution that Congress values relations between S Korea and Japan and that the US is an important ally interested in trilateral win-win-win relations. I see codifying our goals in securing peaceful, productive relations in this region as valuable. It makes it slightly more difficult for a transitory administration to whimsically just dismember or abandon allied common interests.

Yes, we should, as these are two of our most valuable alliances in the East. Congress needs to do as much as possible to maintain these alliances while the current administration allows them to erode as he flirts with dictators such as Kim, Xi, and Putin.

Argument opposed

The current tension between South Korea & Japan has been caused in part by a U.S.-led treaty from 1965, which shows that U.S. interference in relations between those two countries may not be helpful. Even if the U.S. maintains alliances with Japan & South Korea individually, it should leave disputes between the two countries alone.

Yes, we need to extend assurances to Japan and South Korea particularly since Trump has alienated most of our European allies and swooned over dictators.

This is a STUPID QUESTION. Of course they should Japan and South Korea have been allies and really good Allies at that. Leftists and liberals seem to flock to China and Venezuela, Cuba even Russia. What a ridiculous question. Why don’t you fools work on something that would ACTUALLY help Americans and AMERICA instead? Oh wait because YOU HATE ANYTHING TO DO WITH AMERICA AND AMERICANS!!!

The House of Representatives should support Representative Eliot Engle’s H.R.127 to recognize and support the trilateral agreements between the US, South Korea, and Japan. Especially timely in this era of the strengthening Russia-China-North Korea alliance, and the rift growing between Japan and South Korea over the South Korean court’s ruling against Nippon Steel, this bipartisan bill will be important to whatever situation develops in the near future amongst the three Allies. Korea and Japan have been enemies for centuries, and the US-sponsored, post-WWII alliance is a much greater diplomatic achievement for all three countries than most Americans, including the President, realize. I hope that Congress will have the votes of my Representative and Senators in supporting this resolution!

Expressing support is an important message that North Korea , China and Russia need to hear regularly even though Pres Trump seems to have a linger bark than bite

That’s another dumb question by Countable! The House has No Choice as both countries are our allies! Why don’t you dummies ask that about our NATO allies in Europe? We already know that you left wing bigots hate Jews so we know where you stand with our alliance with Israel!!!

Either we support them or we do not. We need allies in the area or we give influence to China, Russia, and North Korea.
