The U.S.-South Korea alliance has been a bulwark for regional peace and stability, while exemplifying democratic values, free market principles, and a commitment to universal human rights. The House should send a message to the world by formally emphasizing the importance of the relationship.

By all means yes..... I’m in full support of the resolution which would recognize that the U.S.-South Korea alliance serves as a linchpin of regional and bilateral security that’s exemplified by deep diplomatic, economic, military, and cultural ties between the two republics. We should emphasize the importance of our alliances with all allies, rather than the dictatorships that Trump loves so much.
Argument opposed
While the U.S.-South Korea alliance has many benefits for both sides that deserve broader acknowledgment, that relationship isn’t going to get significantly better with the passage of this non-binding bill. Congress should focus on legislation that has a bigger impact.

Feel good fluff that doesn’t do anything. This “legislation” doesn’t change anything, propose anything, or accomplish anything. It’s a total waste of time. We have treaties to define our relationships with countries. Do something that matters. Address immigration, climate change, the budget. DO SOMETHING USEFUL.

Another piece of legislation that is a waste of time. What says the US supports South Korea more, a symbolic vote in Congress or the continued presence of thousands of troops based there???

in this case I have to agree that relationship is not going to be strengthened with a non binding vote. Time would be better spent backing and showing unwavering support for Israel .
South Korea is indeed one of our closest allies, and there is nothing wrong with Congress expressing our resolve and position.
Anything that would slow down President Trump's " friendship" with the tyrannical regime in North Korea is a good thing. Why does the President embrace anti- American tyrannies all over the world, and insult our allies and trading partners?
Though the resolution is non-binding, it is important for the U.S. to show to S. Korea that we still back them. The president AS USUAL complains about the amount of money the U.S. spends protecting S. Korea, not understanding that our support gives stability to the whole region, not only S. Korea. Trump is an isolationist, and can't see farther down the road than his next rally. Cooperation provides safety, and the Congress making this statement is important, because the president constantly undermines U.S. positions. It is his narrow view that he promotes, and that isn't what's best for the nation. Of course, despite his rhetoric, he is not a patriot, but a businessman in a president's suit -- he does not look out for the country's position in the world .... only "America First," which in the long run, is going to be America last, without our allies.
We complain about it being hard to pass legislation because Congress is so partisan, but wasting time with things like this definitely doesn't help. We need to work on actually important legislation.
