house Bill H. Res. 1071

Does Letting Unauthorized Immigrants Vote Diminish the Voting Power of American Citizens?

Argument in favor

The right to vote is a privilege reserved for U.S. citizens, and the House of Representatives should needs to affirm this — even in a symbolic vote — to protect the power and legitimacy of the franchise.

It's actually illegal for non citizens to vote. So, I'm curious why this is even being brought up.

Only American Citizens deserve the "Right to Vote". Anyone who is here illegally, and even though paying taxes, DOES NOT deserve this "right", until they are LEGAL Citizens. Period.

They must be here legally and participate when they have become a US citizen, or we don’t have a country.

Argument opposed

Non-citizens should be allowed to vote because they pay taxes, enroll their kids in public schools, and live in our communities. This is a meaningless, non-binding bill.

This is totally meaningless since illegal immigrants can’t vote anyway. Typical waste of time by the Republican Party.

So republicans are back to reaffirming things. Let’s reaffirm how disgusted we are with their leadership in November.

The only thing that diminishes voting power in our country is the Republican Party through their gerrymandering, voter photo ID crap, and other stupid requirements designed to suppress immigrants from voting!

This is more Republican rhetoric that has no truth to it. The immigrants who pay taxes aren’t even allowed to vote. This is another untruth. Chris Kobach tried to show that in Kansas about immigrants who work the meat packing plants and chicken processing plants, etc voted illegally and he only found 3 who did that and they were white republican voters who were registered in another state. This is NONSENSE.

Those people saying that illegals are not voting are ignorant of facts: 1) Municipalities in many Sanctuary cities are allowing it at the local levels. 2) and some studies indicate it has occurred...https://m.washingtontimes.com/ 3) So here is the thing, even at the local level—which is really just a foot in the door to state and federal regulations—If even one illegal, non-citizen vote is cast it counters—euphemism for robs—one legal citizen’s vote. There is no other way to see it. And if you think that anyone whom would enter into a country illegally would think twice about casting an illegal vote, you must be smoking something illegal as well.

Undocumented people can’t vote right now. This is a Repugnacant ploy to suppress the vote by insinuating large voter fraud. It doesn’t happen! Let’s look at the Fascist stooges doing the bidding of 45.

It goes without saying that we, the People, as U.S. CITIZENS, have been given the right to vote. Illegal immigrants do NOT and should NOT be allowed to vote in ANY POLITICAL ELECTION. PERIOD..... NO WAY...... It definitely means that their voting diminishes the will of the American voter and taints the vote in favor of the Democrats. P.S. Contrary to those who say that illegal voting doesn’t take place.... Get realistic and see the many examples that occur during past elections. That’s why we see the fierce Democratic opposition to Voter ID. It’s not voter suppression as atheists photo ID is required to drive a car, get food stamps, obtain numerous other Federal social benefits and the list goes on and on. 9*27*18 ..... SneakyPete

Rep Kevin McCarthy must be having trouble in his re-election campaign to produce a bill of this nature; that or he is a strong white supremacist. There is no need for this bill. Immigrants, legal or illegal who are not naturalized citizens do not vote. Studies have shown this repeatedly. Why Republicans leaders cannot understand or comprehend this is beyond me. My Republican friends get it and have problems with their party as a result.

The old bugaboo foisted on the public by the GOP is back again just in time for the midterms. Very little if any fraudulent voting and none by illegals. Republicans like to throw roadblocks up to keep people from voting, like IDs, fewer voting places and reduced hours. Rather than focus on a non-issue of illegals voting we should shine the light on Republican attempts to suppress voting by legal, registered Americans. One wonders if the Republicans and Russians are in cahoots to influence elections.

So there is a call to undermine our already compromised electoral process? What’s to stop them from voting several times? They have no real ID or legitimate address. What prevents foreign countries from encouraging them to move into and overwhelm communities to write in candidates that they deem favorable to their country rather than this one? The fact that this is even a question seems to strengthen a need to have this affirmed.

Only Americans should be voting. It’s been shown I believe illegal immigrants have voted, and Democrats are wanting them to vote.
