Should Stimulus Payments to Americans Be Increased From $600 to $2,000?

The American people need economic assistance amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and while direct payments of $600 for most individuals would help. Increasing that amount to $2,000 would do a lot more to help households cover costs and shore up their finances.

Why can’t our country provide for those damaged by the pandemic in any way at least comparable to other industrialized democracies? Why can’t this wealthy country agree to support those in need instead of building the wealth and holdings of our richest and most elite? … … …
Yes, there are millions of people and families who are at significant risk of losing their residences, not being able to afford routine medical care or even adequately keeping their children fed. Besides that, our economy is teetering and projected to go into deep recession. The impact of our looming economic collapse risks a world-wide depression which would be an extremely costly costly problem to finance our way out of. The FED has long argued that getting unrestricted funds into the hands of the most desperate who will no choice but to expend them is the quickest, most effective way to stimulate economic consumption. So a stimulus large enough to mitigate the prospects of a badly damaged economy is needed. The stimulus funds are a pittance of the costs that would be required to rebuild a badly damaged economic infrastructure.

I’m gonna be snarky here but it’s funny to me that now everyone is asking for socialist policies when in a time of need. Almost like we should do this regardless to raise the bottom line... but anyway yes Congress needs to increase to $2000 a month. I agree with criminal trump on this one. Increase the payments!!

Only those who lost their jobs because govt closed them down should receive $2000 checks. All those who remained employed whose jobs were not impacted by government mandated closures should not. And it should be debited from the paychecks of the Governors who mandated the business closures in the first place. Tax payers should not bear the burden of having to support the folks who list their jobs as a result of stupid executive orders that were not warranted. It’s all a bunch of bullshit!

Yep! Stimulus payments should be increased to $2k...monthly, until we have the pandemic under control.
This year we provided $3.3 BILLION in aid to Israel (population of 8.8 million). They have universal healthcare & free public college. Our COVID funding package increases aid to Israel to $3.8 BILLION!!! Yet, we struggle to take care of the very Americans who fund this aid.

They needed it months ago, Republican thought that denying any relief that would force everyone to open up and back to work !!! It’s a little hard to work from the hospital or graveyard. Let see right now there has been about 30 million people infected over 339,00 die and there are 320 million people in the USA, so about 10% of the population has been infected, we got about 290 million to go.

It’s our money and your insurance is also ours so how about this: you fork over the money and open up the ACA
1. No raises at all for Congress.
2. Congressional salaries paid hourly and ONLY while working for the people, not campaigning.
3. Congressional term limits as determined by the American people.
4. Members of Congress will have the same health insurance as their constituents.
5. No COVID-19 relief monies for corporations.
6. No more special interest donations to members of Congress (NRA).
Now you members of Congress, do your job and increase the relief payments to at least $2,000/person so your constituents can survive the trump virus debacle you created!

$2,000 stimulus is vital, as many Americans have had to incur debts from rent, utilities, loss of jobs, medical bills, etc. during this pandemic with no additional financial relief for 9+ months. This would also feel like reparations for the mishandling of this pandemic. I’m hopeful there will at the very least be a compromise of no less than $1,200 to at least match the first stimulus we received.

I would urge my reps to help their suffering constituents asap! Increase the stimulus relief checks to $2,000 this round and more may be needed. This money will circulate in the economy and immediately benefit most Americans. You ( Cruz, Cornyn, Arrington ) were quick to approve a tax cut that 82% of went to the top 10% of earners.... now do the right thing for the middle and lower class. They are hurting! They are deserving of help even if they arent your big donors. The wealth disparity in this country is shameful and approaching the gilded age. Help the PEOPLE... not big corps and oil.

Other developed countries have been paying their citizens $2000-$3000 a month since the beginning of the pandemic, but the US, the wealthiest country in the world, can't afford a one-time payment of $2000? That's pitiful.
We never seem to have enough money to give to the already rich who hoard the wealth versus putting the money into the hands of people who need it to spend on their daily needs. This money is more stimulating to the economy rather than allowing the already haves to hoard it in a bank or use it to buy political influence to keep them from paying more in taxes. All of a sudden these spineless Republicans who acted like drunken sailors spending our taxpayer money during the Trump years are worried about the deficit. Give me a break. We need this money to put food on our tables, pay our rent and mortgages, put gas in our vehicles, pay childcare expenses, enhance our savings for when it gets rougher after the start of the year and many places are still shutdown because the idiot in chief is too busy golfing rather than worrying about when vaccines will be getting into people's arms, etc. As usual we have the richest Americans imaginable in the Senate telling the rest of us to eat cake.
