house Bill H.R. 8337

Funding the Government Thru December 11th to Prevent a Shutdown and Extending Expiring Programs

Argument in favor

In an ideal world, Congress would pass FY2021 funding on time without needing a continuing resolution at the end of FY2020 on September 30th, but given the realities of it being an election year lawmakers should pass a short-term funding bill that runs through December 11th to prevent a partial government shutdown.

It is sad that our government has devolved to relying on continuing resolutions and this needs to be fixed. However, there is just too much stuff going on now to muck things up more with a Government shutdown. I wish the legislature would get some urgency to support the people unable to get by because the government has done and is still doing such a horrible job to protect us from the pandemic.

Dear Representatives & Senators: Thank you for supporting H. R. 8337 to keep the Federal government open through December 11th. While it simply postponed the problem a few months, its probably all we can expect from a government made dysfunctional by over exploited ideologies and seriously worsened by self-centered, petty, greedy, and irrational leadership completely out of touch with the needs of the American people. Argument opposed

This bill may be bipartisan, but it kicks the can down the road for six weeks when Congress will have to either pass funding for the rest of FY2021 or agree on another short-term funding bill. Lawmakers should pass FY2021 funding on time before FY2020 ends on September 30th.

We need to cut programs and reduce spending. Shutting down the government is great for scaring people, but it only shuts down non-essential things. The government should not be doing anything non-essential, so let's just keep it shut down.

When the next Congress is elected and before they raise their hands they need to be told there are no more Continuing Resolutions to be done. If you are on a committee and it has authority over an agency you will prepare your portions of the budget NLT 01 September 2021 to allow the other house to compare their bill and for joint negotiations between the chambers and to have it on the President’s desk by 30 September. Your committee will meet every working day for a minimum of two hours per day with the sole agenda to call subject matter experts and the head of the agencies to get the information to do a write up of the budget and to work through all amendments from both sides of the isles. The budget will be bipartisan so then when it gets to the floor of both chambers it will pass and sent to the other chamber. Before raising their hands to swear in if they think they can’t get their job done they need to step aside and let their opponent come swear in. They will sign a promissory note saying they will complete this budget on time and failure to accomplish that mission will result in not being able to come back for re-election. Then they can be sworn in. So regardless of what the leadership is doing the first two hours of each business day will be working in the committees on the budget. After the two hours they can go to the floor or back to their offices to do other business. With a little work at bipartisanship they might actually complete their portion of the budget in a couple of months and then they can do overseeing meetings and other business of their choice but the budget will be done on time. If any committee doesn’t have that budget done on time not only will the members of that committee be bared from re-election but the house or senate leadership for failure to oversee their chairman will also be bared from re-election. This is a National Disgrace and the President should demand that they stay in session 7 days a week 18 hours per day until they have real committees meetings and do their write ups and send it to the Senate and they do the same and send it to the President for his signature. Well if they can’t get home to campaign you know we don’t really care you don’t deserve to be re-elected for not doing the only job you were supposed to be doing in the full last year. How many days did the house use on impeachment and could that time have been used doing your damn budget.

You know......WHY does this stop-gap sort of budget have to happen ....several times a year? (Seems like we ALWAYS have one measure end just before Christmas.) Households and businesses don't "run" like this.....they may have a budget and they may re-evaluate it periodically but there is NO mention of "shutdown", especially with a household.......just what the heck is the "Budget" committee doing in the interim after yet another Stop Gap measure?.....seems like they SHOULD be re-evaluating and coming up with solutions and proposals so there is NEVER a threat to shut down. It's not like it sneaks up on them....they all KNOW when the next reassessment is....It's not like "surprise" we have to do our job now. These continued last minute, stop gap measures ARE avoidable, if you JUST DO YOUR JOB.

Reluctantly I agree, but this constant holding the American people hostage while Congress refuses to do the job it was sent to Washington to do needs to end! Personally speaking, I’m gonna keep voting to remove and replace every damn Congressional rep and Senator from my state until they DO THEIR JOBS! And I’m gonna work and donate every penny I can to challengers for Congressional reps and senators in other states who refuse to do their jobs to provide for the needs of the American people they represent. We need to elect and remove them until we have a Congress and Senate that work for the MAJORITY of the American PEOPLE not the few American corporate and monied elites. I do not believe I am alone in this. Most Americans are sick and tired of being ignored by the egos and the corruption that exists in our national legislature!😡

We have enough to worry about without another budget battle, although I'm still angry that Congress is unable to pass a real budget without these tactics. More important is a plan for helping our country through the pandemic, restoring our economy, and securing our elections. Maybe the next Congress will be able to function.

I'm for responsibly funding our government. However, Republicans have been totally irresponsible by cutting the funds we actually have to spend on the public good by $2 Trillion. Nearly every penny of that money went directly into the pockets of the 1%--the Wealthiest Americans. They needed it the least of all, but their greed knows no bounds! Additionally, the Republican Senate is pushing forward to approve ANYONE TRUMPS NOMINATES TO THE SUPREME COURT! We all know that with 6 "conservative" justices the court will teardown all that we slowly built. The ACA and the right to buy health insurance even if you have a preexisting condition--Say Bye-Bye--it's gone right away. Bye-bye Voting Rights. Bye-bye Marriage Equality. Bye-bye Women's Equality. Bye-bye A Woman's Bodily Autonomy. Bye-bye Unionization. Bye-bye Mass Protests. I think The House democrats should consider refusing to support funding a government which runs on Trump's whims, hatreds and greed.

Why are people wanting the government to shut down? You do realize HUMAN BEINGS work in lur government? These families can not afford to be furloughed during a PANDEMIC. A lot of people, in our society, has some soul searching to do after Trump leaves office.

First off shouldn't we be working on 2021? If we were living in normal times this wouldn't be an issue. And I'm amazed that some think that it's the Dems fault when it's the trumplicans that don't know how to do their jobs. If we had a real president leading and keeping things even keeled between the House and Senate to serve We the People not themselves we wouldn't be having this neverending dumpster fire. It's a no brainer that in this universe real adults know how to make a budget work for their household. You live realistically! Sure you can't predict a wrench thrown in but you manage somehow. You don't shut down your house because someone is pouting that they want to keep their pockets lined. We are all in this together and everyone needs to grow up and put their big pants on and do your jobs! The trumplicans don't know how to do that! No! Let's shut down until I get what I want instead of what WE need in order to function as a whole! Sound familiar? Since a certain dictator wannabe set foot in the White House We the People have watched and are suffering due to the neverending dumpster fire! Think realistically not fantasy! There's only one universe we live in and it's on fire. I don't know what universe trumplicans live in but it sure as hell isn't ours! Vote as soon as you are allowed in your city or town! Vote because all our lives DO depend on it! Vote to end this f***ing dumpster fire! Vote to keep your freedom! Vote to keep your rights! Vote to protect your children and children's children! Vote to stop our country from becoming Russia! Vote Dump Trump and all the trumplicans who want a Russian state instead of a United States! No kings here!!!

This is ridiculous and clearly evidences why government is not equipped and should not be running all these aspects of our country! These are expenses that the tax payer funds, yet the money is not effectively or efficiently appropriated by government. The government can’t even keep themselves running; why does anyone expect them to keep anything else running???! It’s a joke. And the Democrats are consistently voting for more government control and management of our lives that government proves over and over again they aren’t equipped to manage!! Democrats, why do you do this? When will you wake up and see that the answer to our problems IS NOT MORE GOVERNMENT! We need a common sense approach to governance where the people maintain responsibility of themselves AND government. Government does not and should not have responsibility for the people when they can’t even be responsible for their own governing!! When you vote for Democratic policies that pretend to help you, policies that take your ability to help yourself and give that control to government to your ultimate detriment, so that government can dictate who can do what and who gets what at the expense of another, that becomes a government dictatorship. When you vote for Democrats who push these policies, Government then acquires the ability to usurp your individual rights, erode the constitution which protects your rights, and ultimately you lose your liberties and freedoms, and we end up with a government over the people, fascism, tyranny, instead of a government by the people and for the people. Your vote matters if you don’t want to lose your freedoms. Regardless what you think of Trump, this election is NOT about personality, it is ENTIRELY about your freedom and rights. It is about POLICY and legislation that could change the course of history for this country in which you will LOSE the constitutional protection of YOUR liberty if you vote for a Democrat. They intend to control government and YOU! We must maintain a balanced approach to government where compromise is necessary to ensure the rights of everyone are equally represented. If we allow the Democrats to control all aspects of government, their intent is to control everything which turns into a tyrannical government. We must have a checks and balance system that works. If you have a Democratic one party stronghold, you have effectively eliminated the checks and balances for the people. Democrats are threatening to pack the Supreme Court and add Puerto Rico, DC, etc. as states so that they can pack the legislature too. They will do everything in their power to control everything they can, because that IS their end game. It’s not about policy to benefit the people. It’s about their ability to gain power and control. Once they have that, they can change policy anyway they like because the people will no longer have a voice or checks and balance in the courts or in Congress to speak on their behalf. Our republic and constitution have withstood the test of time, lasted longer than any other, and secured freedom for a nation of people for two and a half centuries! That is unprecedented! And it’s precisely because of our structure, a representative republic, an electoral college, and 3 separate branches of government. If the Democrats have their way, they intend to fundamentally change this system to a system that historically has proven to fail and will not secure the freedoms many have taken for granted. Under Democratic control, we would lose the checks and balances of an unbiased Supreme Court, and they would create a third legislative branch of activist judges who will work to erode and change the constitution based on their personal ideological beliefs, who think they are above the law instead of subject to it. That is the sole purpose of packing the court, Congress, and why they want to do it. This is critical folks! You may have been programmed by these folks and their minions to think that conservative government is bad, and that is the propaganda they spew to try and gain power. When in fact, conservative government is how we ensure we can rely on the fundamental structure of our system that has secured our freedom for so long. If we lose our conservative approach to governance, we lose our freedom.

What I see is a whole bunch of responses indicating that some folks need to retake civics, and a few indicating that some folks never had civics. Congress continues and gets paid, whether they do their jobs and fund the rest of government. It is the rest of government that gets shut down. And, that has a large effect on the economy in general, and has a severe effect on small rural towns. Many of the small rural towns are surviving only because of the federal workers who drive their economies.
