Scenic byways are a major source of tourism revenue for the areas they’re located in. Now that it’s been seven years since the National Scenic Byways Program accepted new nominations, it’s time for the program to allow the 44 state scenic byways across the country that are ready to submit applications to apply for national scenic byway designation.
The National Scenic Byways Program isn’t needed to draw tourists to scenic highways and routes across the country. With the advent of the internet and travel sites such as TripAdvisor, it’s now easy for anyone to access information about scenic routes, whether they’re designated as such or not.
