Should the National Scenic Byways Program Be Open to New Nominations?

Scenic byways are a major source of tourism revenue for the areas they’re located in. Now that it’s been seven years since the National Scenic Byways Program accepted new nominations, it’s time for the program to allow the 44 state scenic byways across the country that are ready to submit applications to apply for national scenic byway designation.

Yes. I know there are more pressing issues out there, but we are losing historical properties more by the day. This shouldn’t be difficult nor should it take long. And it will make people happy. Lord knows we all need some hope and joy right now. Preserve Route 66, please!

The National Scenic Byways Program isn’t needed to draw tourists to scenic highways and routes across the country. With the advent of the internet and travel sites such as TripAdvisor, it’s now easy for anyone to access information about scenic routes, whether they’re designated as such or not.

Again, the federal government has more important things to do.

If Congress wants to actually promote tourism on our roads then it should pass a transportation bill to fix them up!
Policies that promote responsible preservation and help with positive tourism are good things
We do have more important things but we have to hang on to the great things that we already have this is money for national parks and scenic areas that we have people that would rather put up an oil rig fix all roads !
Let's make America beautiful. We need to do what we can to preserve the USA. We all know there are more important issues. We also know that things don't happen over night.

I am not concerned so much about the benefits for tourism but more about preserving anything that can be preserved under this new administration
Hell yes they should be open to adding more! Has anyone driven the Blue Ridge Parkway? Give me a break seeing a picture on line is lame!
Has anyone driven US highway 1 along the pacific cost from Washington to Southern California? You can’t feel laying the car or bike into the curves along Big Sur with a 850 foot drop to the Pacific on one side and a solid rock face vertical rise of the Los Padre Mts to the right? It is scary awesome. Keep the kids quiet and concentrate or you maybe plummeting to your death or if you lucky smashed into a rock face.
My pout is driving these and NEW ones is a treat.
Although this bill doesn’t seem as important as other crises our country is facing, I am okay with it as long as this administration keeps its hands off our ocean and land for exploration of oil or coal and etc. I want to see us preserve the beauty of our country for many generations after us. I rather have the congress work on healthcare, democracy, Immegration, climate change, clean air and water and fair and free election, gerrymandering.
Things have changed in the last seven years. A new review of scenic highways are needed before fast food and malls appear on them.
Scenery changes. Options should remain open. (And some vistas will also be despoiled by Trump's fossil-fuel and "build anything anywhere" agendas; perhaps those roads might be de-listed along the way....
