Budgets are tight and the economy is fragile. Spending money on NASA might seem frivolous. It isn't. Exploring the cosmos, learning more about what the universe is made of, and expanding the reach of human hands is essential to the eventual survival of us. Further, a GREAT deal of what NASA does is focus on us here on earth - from studying climate change, to solar flares, and more, NASA is an integral part of scientific monitoring and research. Plus, astronaut ice cream!

The 2015 US defense budget was $601 billion dollars. Reducing this budget by $18 billion would not affect the security of our nation, and would promote the development of a wide array of new technologies that may become crucial tools for humanity in the future.

The oceans are an acidic stew of plastic bags, children are starving on the streets of every city in the U.S., and you want to spend $18 billion to send some jerks to Mars?

I can think of 18 billion reasons not to support this bill. Let private industry explore the universe for now. Is it worth borrowing billions from China to fund?Maybe when our debt is under control.

Current debt spells no. Eighteen billion dollars will certainly help to clear the debt and keep Social Security alive.

NASA is vital to technological progress and the American economy. It will create more high paying jobs within and outside the US government.

At this time, this kind of funding is a luxury. This is not the sixties. We have real problems to address, like saving our own planet.

18 billion is a drop in a bucket to the government. It is less than a 50th of the total budget so it wouldn't help any areas if you were to stick it somewhere else. Science and space explorations have garnered so many advantages for every day life (satellites, mri, gps) that it would be ignorant to avoid budget spending there. Science and technology drives economies.
Space is the new frontier. We have to lead in the exploration and colonization of space

The NASA program has always been the pride of America. Having said that, America needs to get her priorities in order. We just can't afford it.
Give NASA more money, give people something else to focus their energy and attention on, get us to Mars, Titan, human beings are either exploring or imploding. There needs to be the next great space endeavor ASAP!!!

When we're spending more yearly on defense than NASA's lifetime budget, we need to reevaluate our priorities. This is just the normal finding it gets yearly, it's not even an increase. Not only does NASA provide us more knowledge about our place in the Universe, it helps the economy. NASA has produced technology in its just under 58 years of existence that we can't think of not having available to us today.
We must stop spending on all marginal programs. Our national debt is unacceptable.
