The U.S. needs to impose severe sanctions that punish North Korea and its allies for repeated human rights violations and nuclear proliferation — and hopefully force the country to ease up on both.

I know we feed North Korea even as they bait us. China could absorb them overnight to the benefit of all concerned but sees no economic purpose in doing so. South Korea could not so easily and would not dare. It is hard to believe so hidebound a regime as North Korea can coexist in the modern era but then Mao's Great Leap was not so far back in time and look at them today.

This bill creates new administrative costs to fund another round of sanctions — even though they haven't worked in the past. Legislators need to return to the drawing board and come up with something that works.

We have sanctioned this nation time and time again. All it seems we accomplish each time is starving and straining a people that live in fear more and more. We have done nothing to curb the actions of the regime. Why should we keep punishing the innocent citizens?

Sanctions do not seem to positively change conditions for the people of target nations, nor do they negatively affect rulers to the point of fomenting change.

Even if we think the sanctions are not working we shouldn't be doing business with this country and their crazy leader. Makes no sense
North Korea poses a threat to the entire peace of the whole world as long as a madman controls their government.
North Korea cannot go unpunished for the nuclear program they agreed to disengage in but later broke vows of; they have continue to proliferate nuclear weapons while threatening the US and our allies. We should therefore never condone trade with North Korea with our private sector nor our government.
The ramifications of an unwarranted nuclear attack are tremendous.
We need to crush NK before they have the ability to crush us.
As someone that has lived in South Korea very close to the border, I know people who have family across that border. These sanctions give North Korea the narrative that America is the reason they are poor. If we take away sanctions the country will need to stand on its own. Also, these sanctions have clearly only hurt the lives of the average person while not changing the system. Sanctions starve the poor and hurt the average person while their leader lives a lavish lifestyle. Hopefully you change your mind. As democrats, I would hope you could see the danger this does to the average North Korean rather than how it might slightly effect their leaders.
N. Korea is, literally, a time bomb and needs to brought down.
As the old saying goes, "If it aint broke, don't fix it." Well it applies in the reverse as well. This hasn't worked in over 20 years. I think it's time you folks sit down and figure out a new approach.
North Korea threatens progress towards a more peaceful world. They continuously go against the UN and the security council's recommendations. They threaten the peace not only of their region, but in the world. If we (as an international community not just the US) do not set up boundaries with North Korea and start taking them more seriously, then we could be on the brink of a second Korean War. North Korea threatens the lives and peace of their own citizens as well as abroad.
North Korea has been subjected to international sanctions, spear-headed by the US, for far too long. Much like Cuba you can not starve a corrupt regime into submission. Kim Jong Un does not care about his own people and the sanctions hurt no one but North Korean citizens. In addition to causing famine in North Korea, it is far easier to radicalize a starving population. Sanctions do a good job making the North Korean people hate America more.
This isn't our fight. Think of countries like insects: if you don't bother them, they don't bother you. It is literally that simple.
Leave both north Korea alone and maybe they'll leave us alone. Stop spending my money on other countries
The North is unstable with a child as emproror or President. He is not capable of thinking what the ramifications would be if he sent a nuclear missal at one off his enemies. China can keep him aware, and he best pay attention
