Do U.S. Airports Need Better Plans For Handling Terrorist Attacks?

Argument in favor

Bolsters national security at domestic airports and honors a slain federal employee.

While it's true that each airport should already have effective protocols to deal with terrorist attacks, a bit more oversight can potentially help.

Argument opposed

Airports should already have these plans without relying on taxpayer dollars.

If you want to stop terrorism stop trying to pass bills that allow immigrants a free pass through the immigration process by putting them in the armed forces. True that some military personnel found in another country might be useful to the US but does it prove that this person is loyal to the US if has not acquired citizenship or fully understood US concepts of law or English even?

Looking for terrorists in everyday clothes is truly looking at citizens as terrorists. Increasing security to be on the lookout or as an immediate response may seem like a good idea, but in reality, we are doing much more damage

Airports care about security right up until the point that they make lunes longer at security. Why? Because airports, and DHS (FAA and TSA) do not run security there. They IMPLEMENT but they do not run it. Airlines do. Passengers complain about line waits and say security is taken ng too long or complain that their rights are being violated and the Airlines go to the stakeholders who, in turn, go to the TSA and FAA leadership and tell them they have to speed it up and to back off their passengers. I pf they refuse, they go to politicians (our employees). Politicians want to be re-elected so they come down on DHS to make changes to speed things up and security plans are modified (read that loosened) to allow for this. Over the past 14 years, this has happened so many times that security is nominally different than it was pre-9/11. Don't worry though, when the next attack happens, we will all clamor about asking why the government could let this happen saying TSA is ineffective, politicians will blame Obama and DHS and TSA administrators will be fired while everyone looks for whom to blame. We are to blame. Want airport security? Go to Isreal and you will see how to do it right. Try complaining about the security in Frankfurt and see what that gets you. Guess what? We have no "rights" to privacy and fast security when we go to the airport- there is no unlawful search and seizure. The moment you sub,it for screening, you consent to search. Flying is a privilege we pay for, not a right we are entitled to. Don't like security? Take a train.

The amount of security at our airports is already too much, and adding more will do little to stop an attack like the one that killed Gerardo Hernandez. There will always be a first checkpoint, and someone that wishes to attack it will be able to.

More military presence is a must! Every other country around the world has it. Why not us?

In fact, get the government out of the concourses all together by defunding the TSA, and allowing the airports to determined their own, private methods of security.

And other purposes causes me concern. No blanks for TSA. DHS is to big already and it needs to go away as well.

We have spent far too much on an ineffective TSA. Giving more money to a broken organization won't fix security issues at airports

I think anyone can penetrate an airport . The FAA should do security checks and have huge fines against Airport that fail.
