house Bill H.R. 6147

$154 Billion FY19 “Minibus” for Public Lands, Public Housing, the EPA, IRS, & Agriculture Programs

Argument in favor

This bipartisan spending package represents a genuine compromise on funding priorities from public housing and nutrition assistance programs to operating the National Parks and fighting wildfire. It’s not perfect, but it’s good enough.

Budgets for land management agencies have already been cut for many years to the point those agencies cannot maintain the resources to the standards expected by the public (i.e. your constituents)!

Yeah, only the money for this bill needs to come from the Military bloat budget instead of from the EPA. ALso, consider scraping it off the Deadbeat Billionaire Tax Break, because they DEFINITELY could pay for that, and more, and never miss a practical cent of the loss.

Argument opposed

This spending package doesn’t do enough to rein in excessive federal spending. Alternatively, it doesn’t do enough to fund many priorities of the federal agencies covered by this bill.

This bill is deregulation couched in environmental terminology. I wish the Republican Party would just come and clearly state their goal is to destroy Mother Earth in pursuit of money, because that is again what they are proposing here piecemeal. On top of this it furthers the Republican goal of dark money becoming more influential and bans protective rules. They really hate transparency!

This bill would prohibit funds for the D.C. Death with Dignity Act and fully repeal the local legislation. This local legislation was voted for by the people in D.C. and the vote of the people should be followed not overridden! It does not support many of the vitally important environmental causes this nation must to take care of--now and in the future.

Do not support the further erosion of EPA protections by choking the funding to this agency.

Do not cut funding to the EPA or deregulate our water protections!!!This bill is a mess! It’s underfunded critical programs, cut protections, prohibits transparency regulations, and bloated programs that don’t need as much. Just because it’s the same amount as last year doesn’t mean you’ve done it correctly!!! Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC): It would also prohibit the agency from requiring the disclosure of political contributions in SEC filings. <- THAT IS ABSURD!!! This bill is ridiculous: 1. It takes $100 million away from the EPA as an effort to force the agency to shrink, while throwing $100s of millions into enforcement of the failing (and always doomed to fail due to simple economics of supply and demand) war on drugs. If the lawmakers responsible had or listened to their science advisor's, they would know to invest smarter in science backed policies like environmental protection and drug user rehabilitation. 2. This bill explicitly repeals EPA authority by repealing the Waters of the US Rule, a clarifying rule that would have reduced litigation surrounding environmental regulations and cleaned up both small and large water bodies from non-point source pollution. It also prohibits the regulation of lead tackle and ammunition, or livestock permitting (which is important for both green house gases and the health of our rivers and oceans, just check Florida, the Mississippi River, and the Gulf of Mexico) 3. It explicitly prohibits the SEC from requiring political donations to be disclosed, and remarkably popular idea with voters of all parties, and one that Trump actually ran on. 4. The funding to DC continues to have riders that prohibit the local government from enacting it's own policies. So the nations capital remains taxed without proper representation. It's not like we fought a war over that or anything, right? 5. And finally the fund for America's Kids and Grandkids is a damn ploy. Want to actually help the future? Repeal the tax cuts, invest in our infrastructure, protect our environment from climate change and unsustainable development, and impeach 45 the second he returns from his TreasonSummit!!

After being decimated by previous director, Scott Pruitt, the EPA will not fare better under Lobbyist BFF Wheeler. Cutting the budget will not help the programs but will contribute to destruction of wildlife, lands, air and water. If our representatives continue to stand back and do nothing, the programs as well as what the EPA was created to do, it will be left behind to a distant memory.

There are only so many ways to say it - we do not have this money. We are borrowing money to pay for this, going into debt that our grandkids will have to pay back WITH INTEREST. This IS taxation without representation. We are enslaving future generations to pick up our tab. That is irresponsible, immoral, and unacceptable.

The EPA has proven that it over steps it's boundaries quite frequently. It's time to minimize their existence. Federal land needs to be a minimum and states should have the highest majority of it.

Now that the toxic Scott Pruitt is out of the EPA, Congress should send a message that cleaner air and water and less pollution is important to all families in America. Cutting funding to the EPA is the wrong way to go about this.
