Minors are influenced by other minors, most of the time (excluding violent crimes) the youth is pressured into a crime and yes I agree that they should be held accountable for there crime/crimes I do believe, giving them the time to learn about adulthood they should be given a second chance
Court involvement as a minor affects the rest of one's potential for education, jobs, and financial stability. Give youth a chance to start over for the sake of our population.
As a youth we have all made mistakes which have yielded various consequences. Youth who have committed crimes are no different and deserve a second opportunity to get their life on track.
Our justice system is really bad at meaningfully reintegrating ex-offenders into society, which honestly makes it kind of pointless from the perspective of keeping communities safe and reducing crime. One of the factors that lead into this is the difficulty of getting legally employed with a record of conviction, even for non-violent crime: Allowing youth and minors to seal their records makes this a tiny bit more possible.
Yes. Allow children to learn from their mistakes and move past them. And make sure there is widespread understanding of this law through the juvenile justice system!
Children's lives should not be ruined by doing something stupid when their brain aren't even fully developed so they don't even realize what they are doing and the consequences of their actions.
Not in favor of teaching kids they can get away with every non violent crimes before the age of 21. Allow this to pass and we'll be teaching a whole new generation crime is ok until you're 21. Laws and sentencing need to change but I don't think we need to be passing a law that forgives so easily.
Everyone has made stupid mistakes as a kid. We need to give people a second chance to turn their life around and not let something done as a teenager follow them for their entire life.
Adolescents do not have fully formed impulse control mechanisms; therefore, they engage in activities without fully comprehending the impact they may have. We must educate our youth to be proactive citizens and to make better choices rather than seeking to label them for the remainder of their lives.
