house Bill H.R. 6034

Should the State Dept. Verify That Palestinian Authority & UN Textbooks Aren’t Teaching Hatred of Israelis & Jews?

Argument in favor

Palestinian education reform is seen to be a key element in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process. Many observers express concern that the PA curriculum incites hatred of Israel & Jews among the younger generation of Palestinians, making peace harder to achieve in the region.

This shouldn’t even be a question. If generational hate and jihad are taught, then we can only expect generations of hate and jihad to come. If we continue to provide foreign aid anywhere, we must verify how those funds are being used. For too long they’ve been used to fund efforts to undermine US interests. In this case, the PA promotes terrorism worldwide and ensures hate toward Israel through a curriculum that any sane person would find vile. The US must approve the curriculum or stop the funds.

Yes, we should monitor the books for content, we should NOT be funding terrorism or hate indoctrination of Palestinian youth

Argument opposed

On multiple occasions, UNRWA has stated that the textbooks in question are subjected to close examination, including studies commissioned by the U.S. State Department, and found to be largely free of incitement. This bill may be addressing a problem that does not exist.

Why don’t we assure the accuracy and inclusion in OUR OWN textbooks first?

Why should our state department have any say in what other countries are teaching? Would we want some foreign country's state department telling us what we can teach in our schools?

We need to handle the racism and hate mongering coming from our own White House and get our own house in order. We have lost the right to intervene in other's racist policy.

How about somebody makes sure Israel isn’t teaching others to hate Palestine. Seems to me they get free reign to do whatever the hell they want lately no questions asked. If it cannot be fairly applied to both sides, stay the hell out of it.

The same State Department that supports selling bombs to Saudi Arabia to be used on children in Libya should be in charge of regulating the educational material of Palestine because terrorism? Get real.

Why single out one group of people? Unless we start checking school curriculums in every country....and who says we’re experts in objectively judging what’s right and wrong in the world? Seems like an impossible undertaking. And more importantly, it’s none of our business.

First of all, this is none of our business. Second of all, I’d be more concerned about Israelis teaching hatred of the Palestinians.

Hypocrites! How are we screening our own school textbooks here in USA in certain areas of our country, to observe first hand what is being taught about our Civil War and the True cause for this war from these textbooks? Like my mother taught me, “....look on your own plate..”

Let’s worry about what US textbooks are saying before we start policing others around the world. And what to do about a president that openly sympathizes with anti-Jewish white nationalist groups and calls them “very fine people?” The log in our own eye...

Hey republicans, what happened to all this America first bluster about minding our own business? Oppose this bill due to stunning hypocrisy and ignorance of conservatives; this bill has nothing to do solving a problem, just pandering to certain us voter blocs.

We can’t even teach our own kids actual science and history these days, we have no business sticking our noses in other countries’ curriculums.
