Given Republicans’ and President Trump’s opposition to allowing DREAMers and those under TPS and DED to stay in the U.S., it’s impossible for this bill to pass. Rather than wasting time on this bill, Congress should negotiate an immigration solution that can actually pass.

I’m strongly opposed and don’t recommend the passage of the
House Bill H.R. 6 AKA the “American Dream and Promise Act of 2019” which would combine longstanding efforts to provide a roadmap for U.S. citizenship for unauthorized immigrant youth, people who have or are eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), people who had or were eligible for temporary protected status (TPS), and people with deferred enforced departure (DED).
Given Republicans’ and President Trump’s opposition to allowing DREAMers and those under TPS and DED to stay in the U.S., it’s impossible for this bill to pass. Rather than wasting time on this bill, Congress should negotiate an immigration solution that can actually pass.

Let’s come together on a bill that might actually pass. This is just window dressing. The Graham-Durban Dream Act bill is a starting place and not so broad reaching as this one. Although, I know you want to grow your own voters Dems, how about something that is more of a compromise, and doesn’t keep putting these designees ahead of those who come here patiently and legally following the process we have.

If I rob a bank and give the money to my kids, if I’m caught the money is confiscated and returned to the bank. Why is citizenship any less valuable or should be awarded to people who broke the law or who were at least victims of criminal acts committed by their parents?

24:16 Parents shall not be punished for children, nor children be punished for parents: a person shall be punished only for his own crime.
Nope, the dems had their chance for daca and they blew it because they don’t really care about immigrants, only politics. Build the wall and secure our borders.
It is ridiculous to hold the kids responsible for the decisions and actions of their parents. It is also ridiculous to send kids and young adults away after our tax dollars have educated them. They are part of our national treasure.
As a country built on immigrants - it is time to fix a system no longer works as it was intended. While I’m cognizant of the entrenched political positions, this situation demands the same creativity and will to succeed that put a man on the moon. It requires engagement with the countries that provide the bulk of our immigrants. It requires a search for ideas that provide opportunity and security. It requires new legislation to fix known issues and flexibility to address new ones.
It requires a “I have a dream” moment.

It’s time. They have been hung out in the wind way too long!!! They must be citizens of the only country they have ever known.
If the children were brought here as children by their parents and have committed no crimes themselves I don’t see the difference in these children and naturalized citizens. They have grown up in our culture and gone to our schools, so yes, I think there should be a path to citizenship.
Dreamers and TPS are here because too many Americans are on the welfare, Gov’t subsidy roles. They have become slaves on the plantation of Government welfare. All able bodied Americans must work or as Gods word says, “they shall not eat”. If Politicians are allowed to continue to buy votes, as has become their habit, it will not be long before most are stuck on the Government plantation.
This act needs to pass. It is the right thing to do both morally and for our country. The vast majority of DACA recipients are hard-working well educated people. In most respects, they already function as American citizens. They contribute heavily to our economy, paying $8.5 billion a year in State and local taxes, & are paying mortgages on 144,000 homes. Many of them by now have children of their own who are, in fact, American citizens. We need to give them permanent protection, a path to citizenship that they deserve, and stop playing politics with the lives of people who have done everything right and that make our country a better place.
Protect dreamers, protect the American dream. Do the right and just thing. Simple.
I was in support of DACA until this past year with the uncontrolled border problems. This would give the Dreamers 700,000 plus 1.7 million more( actually more like 7 million) permanent status. Get the borders secure, stop the Family encouragement and then we can do a deal. I I was watching the House grill Housing Sec. Ben Carson about the Federal Housing conditions as he explained the number of illegals immigrants taking up those residences instead of legal citizens on the waiting lists. So what’s this about illegals not using benefits?
