Should Congress Repeal The Affordable Care Act And Start Working On A Replacement?

Argument in favor

Repealing and replacing the ACA will force the government to find a healthcare system that actually serves the people by offering better service for less money.

Argument opposed

The ACA has helped countless people access healthcare that would have been impossible before. Besides, why should the current system be repealed when there isn’t a clear replacement ready?

"By repealing the Affordable Care Act it will be destroying all the progress we have made in providing healthcare to millions of Americans who couldn't afford healthcare before. It should not be repealed completely without an alternative."

Find a better replacement first, then talk about repealing it.

I wasn't aware that you had to repeal a bill completely before improving any of its provisions or anything it effects.

If it wasn't for the Affordable Healthcare Act my brother would most likely be dead by a cyst growing on top of his pituitary gland; unchecked the cyst would have grown to the point of killing him, but thanks to having very affordable insurance it has shrunk significantly and may disappear all together. I myself may not be alive today too because of the healthcare that I was able to afford; I suffer from severe depression and panic disorder which I can tell you is not an easy thing to live with. To me those who are against AHA are against myself and my family.

Why, as an 100% disabled veteran, should a broken VA system be my only choice? Without the ACA, I can not get private insurance due to preexisting conditions (the 100% DAV thing gets in the way). With ACA, not only can I have private insurance but if I'm not happy with the regional va system, I can seek care through private doctors because of my ACA insurance.

The affordable care act now allows self employed Americans to be insured without paying an arm and a leg - this encourages entrepreneurship, and therefore improves our economy and means of innovation.

The ACA needs a lot of work, that much is clear. But how is it logical to offer millions of people healthcare, then proceed to yank it out from under them with no alternative? Provide me with a sufficient replacement and I will absolutely vote in favor.

Why would anyone choose to strip people who are covered already? NO, instead, find a way to expand Medicare once and for all and bring us to the 21st century along with every other "western democracy" by covering all people universally with a single-payer system.

How about they come up with a replacement first and institute it, then have a discussion about repealing the ACA?? If the brakes on your car are too noisy do you take them off and drive around with no brakes at all? Or, do you install new quieter brakes before taking the old ones off? Thereby avoiding driving your car around with no way to stop it. Common sense is so rare these days it's almost a super power!

I'd like to see the replacement legislation ASAP, but if it simplifies the healthcare industry and leads to better outcomes for patients I'd be eager to support the ACA alternative.

The federal government has no constitutional right to be in the health insurance business. Obama care is a blatant attempt at expanding government reach, and increasing dependence for millions of Americans

Until we have an alternative that is cheaper and increases coverage ACA should remain in effect!

Congress should focus on the creation of new laws / productive ideas. It's unhelpful to dedicate attention to past legislation that's provenly effective and legal.
