Nuclear power is critical for the future of our planet, as the most reliable and safe carbon free electricity source. As someone who has worked in the nuclear power industry, I believe that nuclear is pivotal for our future energy needs. Fear mongering and pseudoscience need to stop before it is too late. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LZXUR4z2P9w
Educate yourself. Nuclear is one of the safest means of power generation. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/national/nuclear-power-is-safest-way-to-make-electricity-according-to-2007-study/2011/03/22/AFQUbyQC_story.html?client=safari Do not be frightened because of sensational media coverage of accidents.
Nuclear energy, particularly the Molten Salt Reactor, the Traveling Wave Reactor, and various approaches to fusion, have the potential to radically change the world! Just imagine: cheap, safe, reliable energy that does not pollute, consumes its own waste (as is possible with advanced reactor technology), and gets us away from burning coal for our energy needs! Please don't confuse advanced nuclear technology with old fashioned nuclear. There is a big difference in these new approaches to nuclear that make them far better than traditional Light Water Reactor approaches, the main ones being extreme safety, cleanliness, and energy abundance. If you don't know what I'm talking about, educate yourself. This is the future!
Yes please! Nuclear power has become significantly safer and cleaner than almost every other option - lets invest in things like pebble bed reactors and newer technologies to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels!
Including safe and reliable nuclear energy as part of the nation's generation mix is vital to meeting global warming CO2 reduction goals. Advanced nuclear power plant designs are inherently safer than the existing plants and should be pursued. Providing adequate resources to the DOE and NRC to fully review and vet the new designs to will benefit the environment, the economy, and ratepayers.
In an age of cyber warfare, the threat of nuclear reactor attacks is an all too probable outcome. It has been unequivocally proven that solar, wind and thermal forms of renewable energy are more than enough to power our planet and care for it at the same time.
If you research the history of the nuclear energy industry in the US, you'll find that billions upon billions of dollars have been given to the industry through government subsidies. It is horribly expensive, horribly inefficient and horribly dangerous.
It is irresponsible to continue to produce nuclear waste that will remain toxic for thousands of years in the future, with no real plan on how to safely contain it long-term. The more waste that is produced the bigger the problem will be for future generations. What we should be investing in is clean, renewable energy. It is time for nuclear energy to come to an end in my opinion!
Research into creating safer, more efficient nuclear energy technologies is in everyone's best interest. A modern grid will require a mix of nuclear and renewable if we are to completely wean off fossil fuels.
I believe this is an important issue to the 5th congressional district. In the greater Lynchburg area, everyone knows someone that works in nuclear power. In my family alone, there are 5 people that work in the industry. Nuclear power is an essential part of our energy economy as it is a vital source. We should invest in improving this technology to make it safer and to make existing plants more efficient and updated, while working towards investing in our country's energy future with new plants.
Exploring better Nuclear Technologies is crucial for building a sustainable energy infrastructure that will allow us to reduce emissions from our existing power generation and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.
