house Bill H.R. 5780

Should the USDA be Prohibited From Killing Kittens in the Name of Research?

Argument in favor

Breeding kittens for the specific purpose of poisoning them, studying their feces, and then killing them is wrong. It should no longer take place at the USDA, and this bill — the bipartisan KITTEN Act — would ensure it doesn’t.

I find ALL animal testing disgusting. So yes, stop that cruel practice on ALL animals.

Stop breeding cats and start collecting strays from around the country. If they're going to be euthanized anyway, at least they can still contribute to research. Stop breeding animals for this kind of thing when so many exist already. EDIT: @Douglas: I don't think there is too much disagreement about the value of research, but so many animals already exist on the streets. Surely there is some sort of partnership that can come from animal researchers and the humane society.

Isn’t animal abuse illegal? I guess if the government does it, then it’s okay huh? What a double standard.

Argument opposed

This bill is an overreaction to one particular study in which cats were the only scientifically relevant animal. Further, non-fatal options such as adoption weren't viable options and posed too great a biohazard risk.

I’m sorry as long as it is for the benefit of mankind, and no alternatives.I will not have any objections to this practice.

Animal testing is an important part of the research process. It is sad but vital to get the best human trials

Test on pedophiles, rapists, and murderers instead. They're lives mean nothing if they're willing to do such atrocious acts.

As an ethical vegan, I don’t believe in exploiting animals for any reason. Humans aren’t meant to live forever, and not everything is about us.

There are alternatives to animal testing that give more reliable results. There is no reason to be torturing innocent animals. And as for the “where is the outrage for abortion?” comments, when are you people going to realize that these issues are not mutually exclusive? News flash: Americans can (and SHOULD) care about more than one issue!

Killing of innocent lives is disgusting and inhumane. In the year 2018, there are other technological ways to test product safety, etc...stop this immediately!

There are so many other non harmful ways to study these things. No animal testing is necessary for the USDA. They are serving us genetically modified food and won't label it so why should they kill kittens to determine dangerous food. It's already out there with its blessing so at least stop the barbaric killing of innocent we not animals.
