house Bill H.R. 5631

Do Iran's Banks and Military Personnel Need to be Sanctioned?

Argument in favor

This legislation would punish Iranian individuals and organizations that commit human rights abuses and fund terrorist activities that threaten the United States.

Yes! And every time they utter the phrase, "Death to America" or any of their other hate speech sanction more. Imagine if they commented on LGBT issues, would the liberals all get their panties in a knot? Hypocrites all.

Anyone who violates basic human rights should be sanctioned.

This would be an extension of previous sanctions on Iran before the Obama State Department lead by John Kerry buckled in negotiation. Remember Kerry served in Vietnam gave our military men a bad reputation by his actions and cut his finger earning a Purple Heart. And he is the same John Kerry who lied to Congress. Yes, yes! Please lay on the sanctions again while showing reputation for the Obama/Kerry weakness before the enemy.

Argument opposed

Another round of sanctions is unlikely to change Iran’s policies; instead, these measures will likely wind up harming the lives of innocent Iranian citizens.

Think, people. If you launch sanctions on Iran, its economy will be ruined and it will be Iran's innocent people who will suffer the most. Economic sanctions have proven to be ineffective, such as those on Cuba.

Congress should stop trying to run US Foreign Policy. Plus, what they want to do would abrogate our multinational pact with Iran and seriously hurt our international standing as a reliable partner.

We need to open up a dialog with them and stop pushing them towards the extremists. They used to be a modern democracy, they want to be again.

Claiming that sanctions will harm innocent civilians is flatly untrue. Lifting sanctions will not improve the lives of civilians. Case in point, as part of Obama's so called deal, he released $150 billion. Are Iranian citizens any better off now? No.

Of course they need to be sanctioned. We must show them we mean business on terrorism.

We need to stop sponsoring a country that openly violates human rights, sponsors terrorism, and openly chants "death to the USA"...

Why sanction them? Are we prepared to enforce it? Is it another position we will send our young men and women into harms way and then NOT enable them to protect themselves? Who will really enforce it?

Another attempt at undermining the Obama administration's foreign policy and success at averting an Iranian nuclear power. Reinstating sanctions means Iran reinstating its nuclear program. We have committed to a regional strategy and to walk back on it would show domestic uncertainty and weakness.
