An action plan is definitely needed. Any action plan will only work if it uses an integrated co-occurring model that provides time-unlimited treatment, addressing both mental health and chemical health problems simultaneously with the same team using the same tools. The model for this type of treatment has been developed, tested, and proven to work better than anything that has gone before. Start by talking to the people at Dartmouth, then Minnesota and Ohio where it’s been further developed and actually being used.

(Step one:) Legalize cannabis. (Step two:) Heavily restrict opioid prescriptions and recommend cannabis with high CBD to THC ratios like Harlequin with a 5:1 avg CBD output. (Step three:) Bitch about it because you think weed smokers make baby Jesus cry and try to get people addicted to opioids again because Endo and Allegran cut you a fat check you received on the floor of the house while voting on opioid restrictions.

Medicare and Medicaid already cover some forms of detox, addiction medications, and inpatient treatment centers, so it’s not clear what recommendations HHS and the public may make.

Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) was ask to develop an action plan for recommending changes? Obamacare (ACA) address this, but trump and the republicans party have been trying to get rid of and defund it! Opioids may fall under a pre-existing condition? Leave it out of Medicare and Medicaid, fund ACA (Obamacare)!

I am avidly against bureaucracies invested with power to present and obtain their agendas. What is being ignored are the thousands of Americans who suffer from legitimately diagnosed diseases and or physical trauma of which the pain meds are being denied access to via prosecution of physicians who prescribes these meds. I am a Viet Nam Era Veteran who suffers from a diagnosed disease and pain meds are critical for me living a somewhat decent life. Thousands of people are now suffering because of government intervention by extracting all pain meds from legitimately diagnosed individuals.

The government needs to stay out of our healthcare and leave these type of decisions to the doctors who are licensed and trained to treat their patients appropriately. This subject is very misreported and there are huge agendas. Hysteria and an illogical emotional response is being trained into people by key words such as “opioid epidemic” so instead of using logic everyone is knee-jerk reacting to rhetoric.
Efficiency through centralization not only saves money, but can allow us to maximize the return on what we the people invest in, in this case delivery of services to help we the people. Still, prevention is always the best medicine and we need more funding for PUBLIC schools for early and truthful education about what drugs do to our health, which includes the good and the bad, aka ALL the facts. Things are far more complicated than people seem capable of understanding and there are many things at play, including the fact that people use various substances to try to relieve the unreasonable stress people are placed under living in a country where working full time is not perceived as working hard enough just to make ends meet, which is inhumane & illogical.
No big pharmaceutical companies should be held accountable for the cost.
Not that isn't enough. Stop smoking campaign included education, starting with young children. With DeVoss support for charter schools, this will be much harder to coordinate but necessary
Government needs to stay out of doctor patient relationships, so that doctors aren't frightened to treat a patient appropriately, and humanely.
Making the Dept. of Health create an action plan for Medicare and Medicaid is just delaying the inevitable need for restructuring the program.
And that action plan should include aggressive countermeasures against the primary cause of all addictions: POVERTY!
Opiate Addiction is not a Federal problem, therefore, stay out of it. Maybe a state issue, but in reality, it's a personal problem. This issue is being pushed by organizations seeking the Federal Dollar. Most of the opiate rehab facilities offer little actual addiction help-failure is high.
How about telling congress to secure the border. That might help.
YES, we need to HELP other addicts like me to stop this insane epidemic.
Insurance is suppose to cover this All the feel good grants and legislation look good on paper but do nothing for addicts
Yes, go get some of that $708 BILLION sent over to fund our war machine.
