U.S. Wants to Compete for a World Expo Act

What are we going to show the world at these expos? If we cut funding to the arts, and continue to deny what is scientifically proven, we don't deserve a place in these events.

This is a goddamn joke. Working on tourism and PR right now is like repainting a house while the walls are falling apart. You know what brings people into the US? Not being a bunch of xenophobic a-holes.

This would be a waste of taxpayer dollars given the other racist and hateful policies of this administration. We will not attract more tourism while taking an otherwise isolationist stance on most other issues.

The current administration wants to defund many valuable human and environmental initiatives. And extra funds should go for more concrete needs. To support something like this is a slap in the face to those needing Meals on Wheels, SNAP benefits, etc.

Tourism has been impacted by Trump's bigotry, seriously!

I have no nay or yea, since we as a whole nation haven't been active since 2001 many states and private entities still continue to participate. Some cities have even petitioned to be host. If it's a financial win I'm in. If it's a gamble I'm out I don't gamble unless it's a sure win.

While I'm generally in favor of rejoining the body, the idea of promoting tourism right now may ring a bit hollow. Let's perhaps work out who we are as a country regarding immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers before we try to enjoin anyone to come visit to attend our expo. We might end up being embarrassed once again as we were for the recent African Economic Development Forum during which no actual Africans were allowed in to attend, since no visas were issued for them to enter the US. To attend the conference we hosted. For them, allegedly.

We shouldn't be spending millions on frivolous expenditures when we have Americans starving and living under bridges. Showcase new gadgets or build homeless shelters, schools, and food banks. Not a difficult decision. It's time for our representatives to get their priorities in order.

This administration is nothing short of violent in its hatred of people of color, hatred of truth and science, and hatred of art. To say that Meals on Wheels doesn't work – whatever that is supposed to mean – and then ask for money to advertise reminds me of evil corporations who cover up their profits made killing people and then create beautiful advertisement blitzes that are so touching they make the average person cry. Kill 'em and advertise your virtues? No thanks.

Putting more funds into tourism would do no good since less and less people are choosing to visit the United States. More funds need to be allocated to help those living in our country. There is no point to bring in more tourism if that money goes to the upper-class instead of toward programs to promote the welfare our citizens.

A world expo would be a waste of tax dollars especially when you consider the proposed cuts to the budget. It's the sort of thing dictatorships and 3rd world nations via for.

As others have likely said, we are in no place to show the world how great we are, when the current administration does everything it can to diminish the greatness while promoting hatred and demonizing thr down trodden... how this rep from MN thinks this is a good idea right now is beyond me. We can't afford this if Flint can't be helped.

The least of the Trump Administration's worries should be promoting expos that, in kind, promote ideals & scientific research that members of said administration openly reject.

The United States is a great country and a beautiful one as well. While we have a right and an obligation to protect our borders that shouldn't limit us in any way from participating in the world.

Right now, there are several other areas that our country needs to focus on before we attempt to bring tourism to our land.
