Does Funding to Admit the Non-Citizen Kids of Legal Residents to America Need to be Cut Off?

Argument in favor

The federal government shouldn’t be allowing children under 21 without legal status to come to the U.S. and potentially become permanent residents just because their parents are here without Congress passing a law to allow it.

I don't think the non-citizen unmarried children should be prohibited from coming and having an opportunity to become US citizens - I just don't want the government to use my money to buy their plane ticket. I support cutting funding to this. If you need money to bring your child to the country, come talk to me and I'll probably be happy to donate the cost of the plane ticket. I just don't trust Washington to do the right thing with your child or my money.

Cut the funds off. Let the legal residents pay for the children. Why must North America tax payers support other countries children. What is wrong with our government? Illegals and supporters say it's the jobs that draw foreigners to the US. From my point of view, it's the free money.

While I agree keeping families together is paramount, it is not the responsibility of the federal government to finance the relocation of whole families of immigrants. My Irish ancestors came to America one at a time, worked their tail off, and through money they saved and the support of local charitable organizations were able to bring their family to America once established and financially able to do so. "Financially able to do so". That is also a key point. Bringing whole families to America that can't support themselves puts added pressure on government assistance programs that are already stretched for existing citizens.

Argument opposed

This program gives the children of U.S. residents that are under 21 and not married the ability to come to America legally and make a home here without having to make a treacherous journey to enter the country illegally.

Has DJT won the election? This is another attempt to prohibit entry to the US. That is not who we are. Evidently the Republican lead house what's to become Isolationists. Come on, America! Immigrants make this country what it is. Do we need to be vigilant, sure, but keeping out children is just wrong.

Republicans are so pro-family that they'll split families up. Do they think that will make more families or something? Oh, right, we're talking about brown people. Business as usual for the fascist Republicans.

How about we stop shooting ourselves in the foot on immigration? How about we become the land of opportunity and family that we were supposed to be?

It isn't the government's job (or the taxpayers actually) to foot the bill for families to move here. What about the thousands of people that try to come over here from other countries. Are we going to foot the bill for their unmarried children also? It just isn't common sense spending. While I sympathize with the situations, I don't trust the government with my money in this fashion.

The first question that popped into my mind was: Why would LEGAL residents not already have their young, unmarried children here with them?! If they entered the United States LEGALLY, why would their children have to enter ILLEGALLY?! Did the parents initially enter illegally and then get granted amnesty?! It's mighty fishy, if you ask me! I say "end the funding!" Obama has played fast and loose with our immigration laws and even defied the courts, never mind his attempts to figuratively (if not literally) shred our Constitution! In doing so, he has put the health and safety of We the People at risk! Cartels Help Terrorists in Mexico Get to U.S. to Explore Targets; ISIS Militant Shaykh Mahmood Omar Khabir Among Them APRIL 26, 2016 Mexican drug traffickers help Islamic terrorists stationed in Mexico cross into the United States to explore targets for future attacks, according to information forwarded to Judicial Watch by a high-ranking Homeland Security official in a border state. Among the jihadists that travel back and forth through the porous southern border is a Kuwaiti named Shaykh Mahmood Omar Khabir, an ISIS operative who lives in the Mexican state of Chihuahua not far from El Paso, Texas. Khabir trained hundreds of Al Qaeda fighters in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Yemen and has lived in Mexico for more than a year, according to information provided by JW’s government source. Now Khabir trains thousands of men—mostly Syrians and Yemenis—to fight in an ISIS base situated in the Mexico-U.S. border region near Ciudad Juárez, the intelligence gathered by JW’s source reveals. Staking out U.S. targets is not difficult and Khabir actually brags in an Italian newspaper article published last week that the border region is so open that he “could get in with a handful of men, and kill thousands of people in Texas or in Arizona in the space of a few hours.” http://www.ilgiornale.it/news/politica/jihad-trova-alleato-messico-i-narcos-1249792.html Foreign Affairs Secretary Claudia Ruiz, Mexico’s top diplomat, says in the article that she doesn’t understand why the Obama administration and the U.S. media are “culpably neglecting this phenomenon,” adding that “this new wave of fundamentalism could have nasty surprises in store for the United States.” This disturbing development appears on the Open Source Enterprise, the government database that collects and analyzes valuable material from worldwide print, broadcast and online media sources for the U.S. intelligence community. Only registered federal, state and local government employees can view information and analysis in the vast database and unauthorized access can lead to criminal charges. Updated data gathered on Khabir reveals he’s 52 years old and was ordered to leave Kuwait about a decade ago over his extremist positions. Khabir is currently on ISIS’s (also known as ISIL) payroll and operates a cell in an area of Mexico known as Anapra, according to the recently obtained information. A year ago Judicial Watch reported on an ISIS camp in this exact area, just a few miles from El Paso. http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2015/04/isis-camp-a-few-miles-from-texas-mexican-authorities-confirm/ JW’s April 14, 2015 report identified Anapra as the location of the ISIS base, details that were provided to JW by sources that include a Mexican Army field grade officer and a Mexican Federal Police Inspector. Anapra is situated just west of Ciudad Juárez in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. At the time JW reported that another ISIS cell was established to the west of Ciudad Juárez, in Puerto Palomas to target the New Mexico towns of Columbus and Deming. Sources told JW that, during the course of a joint operation, Mexican Army and federal law enforcement officials discovered documents in Arabic and Urdu, as well as “plans” of Fort Bliss – the sprawling military installation that houses the US Army’s 1st Armored Division. Muslim prayer rugs were recovered with the documents during the operation. A few months later JW reported that Mexican drug cartels are smuggling Middle Eastern terrorists into a small Texas rural town near El Paso and that they’re using remote farm roads—rather than interstates—to elude the Border Patrol and other law enforcement barriers. http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2015/07/mexican-cartels-smuggle-terrorists-into-u-s-through-rural-texas-border-region/ The foreigners are classified by the U.S. government as Special Interest Aliens (SIA) and they are transported to stash areas in Acala, a rural crossroads located around 54 miles from El Paso on a state road – Highway 20. Once in the U.S., the SIAs wait for pick-up in the area’s sand hills just across Highway 20. At the time JW’s government sources revealed that terrorists have long entered the U.S. through Mexico and in fact, an internal Texas Department of Public Safety report leaked by the media documents that several members of known Islamist terrorist organizations have been apprehended crossing the southern border in recent years. Earlier this year, as part of an ongoing investigation into national security risks in the porous southern border, JW obtained evidence that proves the U.S. government has known for more than a decade about the partnership between terrorists and Mexican drug cartels. http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2016/01/judicial-watch-uncovers-2004-state-department-records-confirming-arab-smuggling-cells-al-qaeda-leader-in-mexico/ State Department documents made public by JW in January say that for at least ten years “Arab extremists” have entered the country through Mexico with the assistance of smuggling network “cells.” Among them was a top Al Qaeda operative wanted by the FBI. Some Mexican smuggling networks actually specialize in providing logistical support for Arab individuals attempting to enter the United States, the government documents say. The top Al Qaeda leader in Mexico was identified in the September 2004 cable from the American consulate in Ciudad Juárez as Adnan G. El Shurkrjumah. The cable was released to Judicial Watch under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). © 2010-2016 Judicial Watch, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Concealment Of Latent Tuberculosis Rates In Refugees Putting Americans At Risk • The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) does not collect this data even though the Refugee Act of 1980 legally obligates them to. Breitbart News just reported that the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, most county health departments in the state, and the local Michigan offices of refugee resettlement agencies are putting the health of Americans at risk through their concealment of refugee latent tuberculosis (TB) infection rates. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/10/17/several-michigan-counties-hiding-refugee-tb-health-data/ While many states make this health information available to the public, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) does not collect this data even though the Refugee Act of 1980 legally obligates them to. Facts and statistics Breitbart compiled on refugee latent tuberculosis (TB) infection rates in the United States can be seen below: A number of states routinely make this important public health data available in annual reports: Minnesota, where the latent TB infection rate among newly arrived refugees in 2014 was 22 percent, Indiana (26 percent), Arizona (18 percent), Utah (18 percent), Texas (15 percent), and California (12 percent), and Florida (12 percent). http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/05/17/22-resettled-refugees-minnesota-tested-positive-tuberculosis/ http://www.in.gov/isdh/files/State_of_Indiana_Refugee_Health_Program_Annual_Report_2015.pdf http://azdhs.gov/preparedness/epidemiology-disease-control/disease-integration-services/refugee-health/index.php#statistics-tb http://health.utah.gov/epi/healthypeople/refugee/datastatistics/2014/reportable_conditions.pdf https://www.unthsc.edu/texas-college-of-osteopathic-medicine/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/Refugee-Health-Report-2014.pdf https://www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/Documents/Final%20ORH%202013-14%20Annual%20Report.pdf http://www.floridahealth.gov/programs-and-services/community-health/refugee-health/_documents/florida-refugee-health-program-report-2010-2012.pdf Other states and resettlement agencies have made the data available after repeated requests from Breitbart News: Tennessee (27 percent), Vermont (35 percent), and Idaho (21 percent). http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/06/14/27-percent-tennessee-refugees-test-positive-tb/ http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/06/05/tuberculosis-35-vermont-migrants/ Identifying and treating refugees who arrive with latent TB infection rates is an important element in state and national TB control programs because numerous medical studies, including one conducted at the University of California at San Diego in 2013, have shown that high rates of latent TB infection among resettled refugees pose a public health risk to the general public in communities in which they have resettled. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/06/07/study-high-latent-tb-infection-rates-increase-risk-active-tb-refugee-resettlement-communities/ Latent TB becomes a health risk when it activates into active and infectious TB, a process usually associated with a lowered level of immunity among patients who have latent TB. Four percent of the general population in the United States has latent TB infection. Ten percent of this group develops active TB at some point in their life. In contrast, 33 percent of the population in the rest of the world has latent TB infection. When refugees arrive in the United States from other parts of the world with latent TB infection, medical studies suggest that their activation rate is higher than ten percent, due to a number of factors that reduce their immune systems, including crowded living circumstances, failure to initiate or complete latent TB infection medical treatment, and lifestyle choices, such as smoking. Though it refuses to provide latent TB infection rate data on refugees, Michigan is one of fifteen states for which Breitbart News has obtained data on the number of refugees diagnosed with active TB. All told, 468 refugees have been diagnosed with active TB in these fifteen states: Minnesota (296), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/10/13/two-hundred-ninety-six-refugees-diagnosed-active-tuberculosis-minnesota/ Wisconsin (27), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/07/05/wisconsin-now-refugee-tb-capital-us-twenty-seven-cases-two-years/ Nebraska (21), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/08/30/twenty-one-refugees-diagnosed-with-active-tb-in-nebraska/ Louisiana (21), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/06/17/twenty-one-refugees-active-tb-sent-louisiana-since-2011/ Michigan (19), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/09/16/nineteen-refugees-diagnosed-with-active-tuberculosis-in-michigan/ Vermont (17), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/07/11/vermont-now-admits-seventeen-refugees-diagnosed-active-tb/ Colorado (16), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/07/12/colorado-now-says-sixteen-refugees-diagnosed-active-tb/ Florida (11), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/05/31/eleven-refugees-active-tb-sent-florida/ Ohio (11 in one county), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/07/19/tuberculosis-tb-akron-ohio-area/ Idaho (7), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/06/28/seven-refugees-active-tb-sent-idaho/ Kentucky (9 in one county), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/06/14/nine-refugees-active-tb-sent-single-kentucky-county-since-2013/ North Dakota (4 in one county), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/06/26/north-dakota-county-confirms-four-refugees-active-tb/ Indiana (4), http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/05/22/4-refugees-arrived-indiana-active-tb-2015/ California (3), and http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/09/26/three-refugees-diagnosed-active-tb-upon-2014-arrival-california/ Tennessee, where two refugees have been diagnosed with the very dangerous, multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/07/15/hold-til-three-foreign-born-cases-multi-drug-resistant-tb-nashville-tennessee/ Continue Reading: http://dennismichaellynch.com/concealment-latent-tuberculosis-rates-refugees-putting-americans-risk/ http://libertyalliance.com/concealment-latent-tuberculosis-rates-refugees-putting-americans-risk/

If a Central American immigrant desires citizenship, they should be required to go through the exact same process as an immigrant from any other country. Come in on a visa, work here for a while, study up, take the citizenship exam, recite the pledge, and BAM, US citizenship. Nobody deserves any kind of special treatment because of where they are coming from.
