When the government fines an entity and gives the proceeds to activist groups, the groups are invariably leftists. Most of the groups getting this kind of money are terribly destructive of the United States. We can't stop these groups from getting dirty money from Soros and other liberal crooks, but the citizens should not have to support them, unless they want to.

This seems good, but the bill allows the money to just go to the treasury. I agree with money going directly to the victims and not having mandatory donations to random special interests, but this bill is just as bad just giving the money to legislatures. Write a bill that guarantees all money

What is needed is a bill to modify the existing law to redirect settlement funds to benefit those persons or entities harmed by the actions which promted the lawsuit.

This is a disgusting example of cronyism! No way should government officials dish a little bit of the settlement out to their cronies! Just look at the "Why vote Nay" on this bill - "It makes sense..." with no supporting argument. Of course it doesn't make sense! Yes this is inappropriate and the law should not permit this!
Settlements should be given to those affected. The recipients can then decide to donate any portion of this to charity... The company should want to give donations to groups in order to restore faith from the public

Besides the restitution made to the party involved in the lawsuit, this (non-profit donations) should not be permitted. This practice allows for corruption, i.e., special interests. Why not pass a bill that requires a percentage of money to be allocated against the national debt.

When corporations settle lawsuits, the money should go to the victims. By forcing corporations to "donate" to certain approved non-profits, especially political activist groups, the government enables cronyism.
How can this be described as anything but EXTORTION?! And it's being directed by our government with our consent. We need to keep our elected officials honest and using judicial or regulatory means to EXTORT private companies to give money that they earned to bureaucrats is wrong, wasteful and impractical.
