house Bill H.R. 4585

Blocking the FCC From Rolling Back Net Neutrality

Argument in favor

Net neutrality should remain in effect so that it can continue protecting the open internet, and this bill would prevent the FCC from rolling it back through the regulatory process.

Now that let Ajit Pai has ignored the overwhelming requests and the will of the people just to cozy up to his corporate taskmasters at Verizon, please take him to court to reverse this shameful stain on Democracy and the American people!

Ending Net Neutrality would give companies like Comcast massive power over our education system, economic system, and limit 1st Amendment rights.

Argument opposed

The Obama administration’s net neutrality push was regulatory overreach that harmed the ability of internet providers to innovate ways to improve their services, it should be undone.

Use of the internet has never been free nor “neutral”. Internet has always been a private service, ever since day one of you wanting access the internet you have to pay, and look for an internet provider that gives you the best plan possible ... that means that you look for the features that are most convenient to you, ergo you acknowledge that the provider sets the rules of how you use it and either you accept them or not and if you don’t you look for a different provider ... “net neutrality” is an utopia concept sold by Obama admins to justify more bureaucracy around something that doesn’t need it.

The internet is what it is now is because of lack of government intervention and will only slow it down. In a free market consumers will move to a different provider.

It's funny how many people that are in favor of net neutrality say rolling it back would help big business. Tell me then why Google, Facebook, Netflix, and most big businesses loveeee net neutrality while small businesses hate it? Even though Netflix uses an ENORMOUS amount of bandwidth, they don't have to pay for the massive infrastructure upgrades they're requiring. Netflix doesn't need the same plan as a small, personal website. Net neutrality is a socialist idea controlled by the government (which always makes everything slower and more expensive.) If you want to free the people, free the market; stop government bureaucrats from ruining our capitalism!

The internet should be treated much like a utility. It has become ubiquitous in almost every facet of our modern lives. Giving ISPs the power to decide what content we an access and at what speeds is wrong. You also have to realize that much of our country does not have multiple providers from which to choose. You either select ISP 1 or select no internet. I am in no way a fan of big government, but this requires some regulation.

I’m sorry, but how is it going to help them with better innovations by having more control over what people can and cannot do on the Internet! And by giving fast lane service to the people that have and slow lane service to the less privileged is only going to make the underprivileged less advantaged than they already are! This is not a good thing for anyone (the larger portion of the U.S. public) except for the people that have!

Net neutrality must stay in place in order for the internet to retain it’s value and freedom of use.

No-brainer everyone is effective negatively doesn’t matter how much money you make, party affiliation or any other political matters. Don’t let net neutrality fall.

The rules enforcing net neutrality need to be preserved in law to stop the arbitrary rollback by the FCC chairman, a previous Verizon lawyer. Giving ISPs control over the content delivered to my devices through services for which I already pay them too much goes against the basic credence of the internet. The content on the internet is already free and accessible and needs to stay that way. Please pass this bill NOW.

Net Neutrality keeps companies like Verizon, AT&T, and Comcast from slowing down internet servers and charging premiums. This is all for profit and silencing the people's voice, this will be disastrous! The FCC should not have the power to change the rules. Keep the internet FREE :)

80% of Americans support net neutrality. Repealing it would fundamentally change the way we use and pay for the internet, and be disastrous for online businesses, educators, and everyone who relies on a free and open exchange of ideas and information. The regulations exist in the first place because of gross first-amendment violations committed by ISPs in the past. Please maintain them!

The Internet is a necessity, not a luxury good to be sold a la carte, like cable TV, with ISPs picking winners and losers for their profit alone. The Net has become a utility, vital for daily communications, commerce, education, entertainment, even financial services and healthcare. Let the people decide what content and services win and lose through the power of the free market, while internet service providers focus on delivering all of it as fast and reliably as possible. We cannot let Verizon shill Ajit Pai give the power of life and death over the entire marketplace that is the Internet of the 21st century to a few untrustworthy companies.

Net neutrality is the backbone of small business. Businesses are dependent upon it, if they take away net neutrality they will crash the economy.

Everyone voting nay keeps going on about a "free" market when in reality all that we will see is a regulated internet with paywalls from all the giant corporations as they divvy up the space behind closed doors amongst themselves. How in any way does this help us? Also, what about the internet NOW do you feel isn't free? The nay voters really need to get educated.
