house Bill H.R. 4378

Funding the Federal Gov’t Thru November 21st to Avoid an October Shutdown

Argument in favor

There isn’t enough time for the Democratic House and Republican Senate to reach bipartisan consensus on spending with the White House. It’s not ideal, but this bill would prevent a partial government shutdown on October 1st and give Congress until late November to cut a deal.

Yes. Government shutdowns are counter-productive and should never be permitted to be weaponized for political purposes. Too many people, too many important services, too big an impact on too many people- who should never be used as pawns in a political standoff. Shutting the government to force a point of view hurts too many and is in effect a violation of Congressional obligations to protect the people.

We need to change how this all happens. Every year it’s the same story.

Argument opposed

Rather than procrastinating by extending government funding for seven weeks, Congress should focus on reaching a bipartisan spending agreement before October 1st so that a stop-gap funding bill like this isn’t needed.

Congress and the White House need to do their jobs. No “kicking the can down the road.” This issue should not be a political tool. You wouldn’t stand for these shenanigans in your family’s budget... why should you accept it from politicians? Get off your ass, stop playing games with our money, and pay the damn bills.

It is pretty bad when the government can't budget their monies. I am sure there is numerous spending going on that could be curtailed. Perhaps, Trump can cut back on the government paying for his trips to Florida and playing golf!

I don't want another shutdown, but I also don't like the can-kicking that Congress seems to do at least once a year. At this point, I see no reason to give Trump & Co any spending money because they'll just waste it on the wall. And I certainly don't want any more money to go the military as Trump gears up for war with Iran. One temporary extension is fine, but that's it. Democrats need to play hardball to keep the abuse in check as the Republicans plan to give more tax breaks to the wealthy and corporate interests they seem so intent on pleasing.

This really makes me sick! You are supposed to be THE PEOPLE’S trusted servant elected to represent us and uphold the Constitution and our Bill of Rights! None of which it seems to being done efficiently nor effectively! You have been taking away our inalienable right to bear arms and protect ourselves against the criminals and criminally insane! You keep trying to make our government bigger and more costly than we can afford! You continue to allow our country to be controlled by foreign countries economically! Then choose to ignore the domestic terrorism that threatens us from tyranny of socialism and performing all kinds of illegal activities without holding them accountable all the while allowing innocent people to perish without any accountability!!! I suggest that you ALL have a complete psychic change in your attitude towards our Nation and your current role!!!!

You can’t compromise with most Democrats, the Trump Derangement Syndrome has spread worldwide like the Spanish flu and is out of control. Don’t cave into the Democrats just to get a short term continuing resolution bill. Hold strong Republicans. #MAGA

Balance the federal budget! Make cuts and reduce expenditures wherever possible. I’m not opposed to salaries of Congress persons being reduced as well.

There needs to be continued funding to keep essential services operating. It amazes me at how much the Democrats and Republicans argue about this when we have a $20 trillion plus deficit. How long have we been using continuing resolutions run the government because politicians/lawyers can't or won't agree on compromise? The old saying is "Penny wise and pound foolish."

Congress’s primary job is to fund the government. They have not been able to do that in some time because they’re too busy bashing each other, raising money, and making promises to foreign governments. If they’re not competent to complete the one task they’re required to do why do they still have a job?

WE are paying for it while you assholes in Congress get free healthcare for life and sit on your haunches eating cheese and wine and debating how much more of our cash you should blow on DUMB SHIT. STOP IT. PEOPLE ARE DYING. Learn how to run a business. My 8 year old could run the country better than you fucking fools - proof positive with her lemonade stand project last year.
