Should Genetically Modified Fish Be Labeled?

Argument in favor

Some studies have linked GMO food with diseases and destruction to the environment. People should be aware of this when buying their food.

What is so wrong with the truth? If someone is OK with GMO food they can go ahead and chow down. Some prefer to avoid GMO. SINCE WHEN IS THE GOV WORRIED ABOUT LABELS? They are everywhere.

We have the right to know what goes in our food; whether or not you deem it suitable for consumption is a personal choice.

Argument opposed

The dangers of GMOs are greatly overstated. Labeling genetically modified fish could create an unfair stigma against them.

"The FDA has been saying genetically modified salmon are safe to eat since 2012."

GMO foods are the modern fluoride, being used as a scare tactic. The foods people have eaten for centuries are the product of simple genetic modifications.

Better to make them illegal altogether, or at least make them go through the same approval process as drugs through the FDA.

It's too easy for large corporations to unknowingly use harmful chemicals to cut costs and maximize profits. Labels allow for more astute decision making on the part of the consumer. If cereal makers are forced to label obscure chemicals within their cereal brands, why then are GMOs immune to such scrutiny.

Companies should not be afraid to state the truth of what they are selling. The consumer may decide if the GMO claims are exaggerated.

We all have the right to know what we are purchasing and eating!! Don't tell me that GMO foods are safe because they have NEVER been proven safe. From all the scientific info I've read, they are not safe. Besides, quite frankly I don't care, I don't want to eat them. We should have the choice to eat them or not!

Consumers deserve the ability to contain an abundance of nutritional knowledge of fish that they are consuming that is regularly sold by the market and industries. The subject of variations is an extremely urgent factor in this scenario that is resulted by a procedure known as genetic engineering throughout the chromosomes of a particular organism. Certain species while being reproduced or when undergoing genetic engineering experience variations or (sudden changes). A variation eventually triggers a mutation. When a species consist of a mutation it consist of typically a unique innate ability to conduct a physical or mental action advantage to greatly assist their life throughout their ecosystem and environment as well. A prime example of a genetic variation that results in a mutation of an organism is a star fish that has the aptitude to regrow its limbs if they are destructed or liquified. Although, unfortunately genetic mutations can be a very harmful feature that may influences the outcome of severe diseases WAITING TO HARM YOU! Fish today are brutally regulated by industries due to the fact that they are abused when being factory farmed in unsanitary/unsafe conditions. Do you think corrupt industrial regulators are worried about the diseases that these fish contain due to the contingency of Genetic mutations waiting to infect you? OF COURSE NOT. These farmers job is to breed these fish in any cruel environment they wish and just simply keep shipping out harmed species for their own profit. The least meat industries can do is print on their labels of what true conditions these species undergo and what possible risk you have as a consumer when eating the product due to a widespread of genetic mutations resulting in diseases. The department of agriculture and FDA (U.S. Food And Drug Administration) would be greatly improving the health infrastructure of the American public if they halted their bluff about their products stating that they are "GMO-free" or "Non GMO ingredients" to BOOM THE INDUSTRY. In return, The FDA and the food industry can be developing techniques to abolish he negative side affects of mutations and GET TO THE BOTTOM OF PRIORITIZING THAT THEIR FISH ARE BEING BREED SAFELY AND THAT THEIR REGULATIONS ARE HEALTHY/INNOCUOUS TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC IMMEDIATELY. Hate to say it but mutations can be fatal! Unleashing a devastating outbreak of diseases. You know what they say "If you can't feed A hundred people then feed just one". If you were to be a responsible food industry CEO of regulator id rather feed one individual healthy and make a low profit than feed One hundred people with a fatal, unsanitary, and disease infested product saying that I made a HUGE PROFIT! Industries must comprehend that before you think about your business booming with regulation resulting in a BOOMING PRODUCT, YOU FIRST HAVE TO CONSIDER THE HEALTH OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! To get a basis of fish factory farming of what the industry is truly regulating take a glance at this clip http://youtu.be/g8YszPx8luk Additionally the significance of genetic engineering and genetic variations that result in mutations due to the concept of heredity as well https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/primer/mutationsanddisorders/genemutation Thank you for your time.

You have the right to know what you are consuming. What one thinks of GMOs is their opinion and if the free market doesn't want it, then they don't want it.

Although bills like these are designed to look like consumer protection advocacy, they are often used tactically by GMO corporations themselves to knock out smaller competitors. They create small alterations, like new labeling requirements or restrictions that cause a financial hit that only large companies can take.

I believe the consumer has a right to know what they are purchasing. Some prefer not to eat GMOs. Remember the Consumer Rights? You know, the laws that exist to help predict consumers from misleading products?

Studies have linked gmo's with disease. I am disgusted by the fact that we can't get gmo labeling into law. Look at when gmo's started getting into everything we eat, then look at the when the sudden jump in serious unexplained health issues also started! Studies have also proven that gmo foods do not grow with less water and in fact are leading to serious increases in pesticide overuse due to the pesticide resistance occurring from the companies actually modifying the food itself with pesticides! I have no problem with cross breeding and natural modification, but that is NOT what is going on. This process is sterilizing our food supply and our population! If they release these fish into the food supply, it could cause sterilization of wild salmon through interbreeding. This would have a disastrous effect on our environment and our food supply!
