Title

Special Counsel Integrity Act

Official Title

To ensure independent investigations by allowing judicial review of the removal of a special counsel, and for other purposes.

Summary

Special Counsel Integrity Act This bill sets forth requirements and limitations with respect to the discipline or removal from office of a special counsel appointed under Department of Justice (DOJ) regulations. Specifically, a special counsel may be disciplined or removed only by the personal action of an Attorney General who has been confirmed by the Senate. If the Attorney General is recused from the matter, then a special counsel may be disciplined or removed by the most senior DOJ official who has been confirmed by the Senate and is not recused from the matter. A special counsel: (1) may only be removed for misconduct, dereliction of duty, incapacity, conflict of interest, or other good cause, including violation of DOJ policies; (2) must be informed in writing of the specific reason for the removal; and (3) may file an action for judicial review of the removal.

The integrity of the Special Investigation must be protected. It is already alarming that the WH is trying to discredit all media outlets except the one that is sympathetic to him, so we must protect INDEPENDENT, non partisan sources of information. 45 must be blocked from firing or in any other way interfering with Mr Mueller.

Trump thinks he has power as president over all things and, in my opinion, would stop at nothing to protect himself from what he can't accept.

If there was collusion, the special prosecutor’s job must be protected.

Trump, or any Trump allies should not be able to fire Mueller. Trump is unhinged, and becomes more so with every Mueller news story. He can not interfere with the investigation into his alleged bad acts.

Firing Mueller would be an impeachable offense. Let the president know he is not above the law.

We absolutely need these protections in place to prevent a situation where a President could fire special counsel if he didnt like what they were finding. If we lived in a world with more integrity, we might not need something like this, but we don't live in that kind of world so we desperately need this.

I expect @repgregwalden, Merkeley and Wyden to support this bill. In particular...Mr. Walden you've been complicit, incurious and silent on this and it's shameful.
