Students shouldn’t have to worry about getting shot while on campus, but school shootings are far too common in the U.S. The status is unacceptable, and the federal government needs to do more to keep students safe in school via efforts like the National Threat Assessment Center.

Studies are ok but make real progress on getting military grade, rapidly repeating guns out of civilian hands. At least ban the sale of any more now and ban the sale of ammunition NOW.

Argument opposed
While school shootings are tragic, the best way to prevent these incidents is to create better threat reporting and school response mechanisms (such as active shooter response protocols), rather simply studying shootings as a mass phenomenon.

There is a simple and direct solution to this problem. More obfuscation, more studies, more commissions are not the answer. Just ban weapons which could enable anyone to rapidly and repeated kill innocents en-mass. It is really simple. Screw the demands of the NRA. As far as second amendment rights, bull crap. I could argue that I as a safe driver should not be restricted by stupid speed limits. However, even though I could safely drive faster, I am required to abide by those offensive speed limits imposed on me, simply because others who would speed might not do so safely- the safety of others requires me as a member of society to abide by laws needed to protect others from those who could abuse those rights. Isn’t that why we have banned automatic weapons, machine guns, hand grenades, rocket launchers and tactical nukes from personal use ownership? Assault-type weapons with large clips are not much different.

Here are initial steps Congress can take to begin to reduce gun violence and promote public health. These allow hunting, self protection and target shooting and do not infringe on the second amendment.
-Ban semi-automatic rifles and shotguns
-Single action bolt, lever, or pump rifles and shotguns with magazines or clips holding 6 or fewer rounds remain legal
-Revolvers holding 6 rounds remain legal
-Pistols holding magazines with 6 or fewer rounds legal.
-Require registration and insurance for all firearms.
-Limit magazines/clips/drums to 6 rounds
-Ban hollow point ammunition and bullets that twist or yaw in flight.
-21 day waiting period for purchase.
-Mandatory background checks.
-Require mandatory gun violence studies on gun violence.
- Secure gun storage requirement
- Gun use training required
- Guns to have modern safety features such as trigger locks added (similar to what we do with cars)
- Gun manufacturers have legal liabilities same as any other manufacturer.
Members of Congress, take the donations you receive from the NRA and publicly announce that you are giving those donations to organization and municipalities that embark on measures to improve school safety and public health. Then lead the effort to create laws that reduce gun violence in America.
Here’s a study, what kills more children? Guns or abortion? If you liberals want the right to kill your babies, then you better quit screwing with our right to defend ours.
Ban the weapons of mass destruction that are used to perpetrate these heinous acts. There will always be heinous people. Frustrate their ability to obtain the weapons to commit heinous acts. Rampaging with a baseball bat is much easier to stop with fewer fatalities.

I don’t believe we need to create a new government agency to study school shootings. It is quite obvious there is little to no discipline within most of our schools. There are no forms of punishment when students break rules. No one does anything for harassment or bullying. Not all students even want to be in school. But law forces them to be there. Teachers are shown no respect, by students, parents or school administrators. Parents don’t even pay for their children’s lunches. And schools can not enforce collections. We have a Department of Education don’t we? What do they really do? What is their job? So far our education system is failing in more ways than learning. No we do not need another government agency. We need one that works and earns it’s pay.
Put God back in school. Put God back in the public square. Liberals have taught our kids there is no right or wrong, be as vile and godless as you want. So now we are reaping what they have sown! God set up the rule book (the Bible) and liberals have thrown it out mocked it tried to explain it away but the truths are still standing and the consequences for ignoring it are very evident!

There is no need for a new study. We know what the problem is already, unconnected males without fathers to start with. Then there is no Judeo-Christian values taught in schools anymore and certainly more Christian values need to be taught at home.
