Should Members of Gangs Like MS-13 be Banned From Entering the U.S. and Deported If They’re Here Illegally?

Argument in favor

The U.S. should refuse admission to foreign nationals who are members of criminal gangs, and those already in the country should be detained and deported.

Illegal criminals should be deported at every opportunity.

Anyone with a tattoo related to MS-13 or affiliated with the gang should be deported on site. No trial needed. They will do no good to this country and shouldn't be here in the first place.

Argument opposed

More needs to be done about gangs like MS-13, but requiring the deportation of undocumented gang members won’t make the problem go away.

Let's not create new Jim Crow-style laws. Laws like these result in innocent people being treated like criminals because of their physical appearance. Might I suggest that we focus our attention on the growing presence of white supremacy and neo-nazism instead? You know because it poses an immediate and present threat to the safety of citizens of color.

This is another of Trump's racial agendas, with no factual basis. Most immigrants do not break the law they have way more to lose. Most criminals are Americans

This leaves far too much room for misinterpretation and fails to provide opportunity for individuals to better their lives. We need to focus this attention inward on the hate groups that already thrive within our borders.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the United States government responsible for creating MS-13 with flawed Central American foreign policy that destroyed the economy of El Salvador and the total neglect of Latino neighborhoods in Los Angeles that allowed MS-13 to flourish there?

Needs to be very specific. See this as a broad brush attempt by fRump to advance his racist agenda

This is a dangerous bill in that it gives a magic broad-sweeping unprovable label to tie to anyone to get them deported. This is dripping with abuse potential and will have a major chilling effect on how our law enforcement and ICE work with people of color. Vote no. Deal with gang members using current laws.

How is this even a question? Has there ever been a more obvious answer? Why would you want confirmed gang members here.

Regardless of affiliation, race or origin convicted, violent people should not be incarcerated in our country. I am not a proponent of broad sweeping policy, which this could be, political asylum, proven reformed individuals and productive immigrants should not be subject to being fearful of threat of deportation.

Anyone who votes against this is a radical liberal and probably a member of Antifa. Get a job. Anyone who responds to my comment with a statement regarding the KKK or Nazis, my response to you is that all the above are terrorists (including MS13) and need to be condemned and banished.

Good luck figuring that out reliably. Let's punish behavior, not some likely-imagined affiliation .

If they have committed a crime they will be deported. Identifying who's in a gang can't be determined just by a tattoo since they may have reformed, or simply by who someone knows. In the US the burden of proof is on the accusers, but the bill does not specify how one is identified as being an active gang member especially in a way of reasonable doubt.

If we can ban them, can we ban Nazis, white supremecists, the KKK and other domestic terrorist groups too?

Immigrants entering our country should be screened for any criminal record or flags in the State Department's visa approval process. I believe that being qualified for any Visa is a rigorous process now.
