The Senate’s Bipartisan Border Crisis Funding Package
Argument in favor
Border security resources are overwhelmed because of the surge in apprehensions, which is creating a humanitarian crisis. This bipartisan bill would provide funding needed ensure detention facilities for unaccompanied children and migrant families are safe, secure, and not overcrowded while also speeding up immigration case processing to get them out of detention facilities sooner.

Let it go to toothbrushes, unlimited soap, (smallpox free) blankets, and a decent place to sleep. We need to respect the dignity of every human being, but especially children. I do not like the “space blankets.”

At least this bill recognizes and addresses the consequences of our Presidents border “crisis” fantasies which has motivated a large immigrant influx before they are walled out physically and also by “merit” based tests that neither Trump nor his family could pass. The asylum seekers are being horribly mistreated and this needs to be fixed. The root cause needs to be fixed as well. The “wall” and border “crisis” concept was created by Roger Stone in the primaries as a way to generate hate and pick a target group to blame- all to provide a rallying campaign theme. There is not and never was a crisis. The detainee issues started with the declaration that there is a crisis. Kind of like the great gasoline shortages in the late 60’s. Declarations of shortages caused everyone to stock up- companies were buying railroad tankers and filling them up. The declaration caused the “crisis”- just as it has here.

I think Democrats and Republicans and everybody in between can, and should agree that the conditions at the border are quite disgraceful. I understand that the immigration efforts at the border are stressful and hard to agree on, but these adults and children are not even receiving basic hygiene products, nor a decent place to sleep. I would like you as a representative to seriously consider this idea to help resolve some of the humanitarian issues at our Southern border.

Argument opposed
This bill is too narrowly focused on providing resources to address the border crisis. It should include broader, partisan changes to immigration policy even at the cost of bipartisan support for the bill and damaging its chance to become law. The bill should eliminate detention centers and ICE altogether. Alternatively, it should include funding to build a border wall.

You people screaming about a pointless wall while children are being treated worse than prisoners in Iran. If troops were treated the way these kids are it would break the Geneva Convention. Look at the picture of Oscar Alberto Martinez Ramirez, and his nearly 2-year-old daughter, Valeria as his wife watched them drown. Both dead face down in the water with his black shirt wrapped around them and her arm over his shoulder. Wild idea here...but take care of the people, treat them with respect...and stop committing war crimes with the cruelty of this detainment. These are concentration camps to be sure, and any politician regardless of their alignment should be disgusted that we even have to consider being human to others.
Return migrant children to their families now! While in government care, provide soap, toothbrushes, clean clothes, beds, lights out to sleep at night. Why does this have to be spelled out? It's basic comman sense humanity. Don't allow one dime for border wall construction!

Use that money to help build the wall. Hey Democrats, it’s our tax money that you are spending on feeding and housing illegal immigrants. Get homeless veterans and Americans housing and fed first. Then worry about the others. There’s nothing wrong with putting America and Americans first.
If you need to ask why we should care for children in detention, then there is no way to explain it.
