house Bill H.R. 3055

Funding the Federal Gov’t Thru December 20th to Avoid a Shutdown

Argument in favor

There isn’t enough time for the Democratic House and Republican Senate to reach bipartisan consensus on spending with the White House. It’s not ideal, but this bill would prevent a partial government shutdown on November 21st and give Congress until December 20th to cut a deal.

Pass the bill but, make sure you are not screwing around with the Census. Make sure you Properly fund the VA & NASA.

What’s wrong with this bill, Col. Cook? Not enough money for the wall? Trump could always negotiate with Mexico as promised....

Argument opposed

Rather than procrastinating by extending government funding for a month, Congress should focus on reaching a bipartisan spending agreement before November 21st so that a stop-gap funding bill like this isn’t needed.

Too many issues in one minibus bill. Lots of it good but...Too much military spending. No money for a physical wall. I won’t support Census spending with a citizenship question or pass it and I won’t answer the census. Your choice. All humanitarian aid must be spent on the asylum seekers path to citizenship and working, not detention and deportation. No more money for private prisons and nothing for DOJ til Barr is gone.

You cannot put five different departments into one funding bill, regardless of the breakdown. This is where the United States gets into trouble financially. We must be able to accurately debate each department with its own funding bill, but not take too long to deliberately derail funding for the year. So no, stop putting so many departments and agencies into one spending bill.

I want to see how each is funded . Too many very important agencies may not get the funding actually needed at the end of the day.

I always have a problem with minibus bills and really don’t have a clear yes/no answer. I think there are a lot of good things in this legislation package. I like funding for NASA, NOAA and NSF-good science is key to resolving long-term issues. I like the rider that prohibits the citizenship question from being part of the census. I like keeping federal agencies and the VA funded. I hate the whole concept of rolling these into a big package which obfuscates “who supports what” without debating “why”. Overall, in this case, I feel the good outweighs the bad, so Yeah.

One bill. One vote. We need deep cuts in military spending. Killing poor brown people to help further enrich a malicious class of money changers is not ok with me.

👎👎The ”Minibus” Appropriations Bill 👎👎 👎🏻👎🏻This package also includes partisan riders, such as the prohibition on including a citizenship question in the Census.👎🏻👎🏻 I stand opposed to This “minibus” appropriations bill would provide $383.3 billion in FY2020 appropriations for agencies funded under five appropriations titles: Commerce-Justice-Science; Agriculture-Rural Development-FDA; Interior-Environment; Military Construction-Veterans Affairs; and Transportation-Housing and Urban Development. A breakdown of its various provisions can be found below. Packaging five appropriations bills into one “minibus” package that totals more than $383 billion is a nightmare for transparency. Sneaky Pete........ 👎👎👎👎 6.25.19......

This ‘Minibus’ bill is much better than the other one. Less military funding, no Hyde amendment, and includes the removal of the citizenship question on the census. It is also only including about 1/3 of the money that was being used for the previous ‘Minibus’ bill. It’s not cramming so much federal funding into one bill as well, so this bill should definitely pass.

I hate these mega bills. Do you guys even read them? We are still underfunding our critical non-military scientific research agencies. NOAA, NASA, NSF, EPA, CDC to name a few. This is a shoestring budget for agencies that actually help protect America from real threats. Like disease, deadly hurricanes, tsunami, and corporate malfeasance. Maybe cut some of that bloated military budget and give it to the agencies that are actually protecting Americans from the things that really can hurt them. I hate these kind of bills because reading them takes forever and there’s stuff in here that I really don’t want, but we also have to pass it.

This issue definitely separates the readers from the just-vote-and-ramble folks. The plethora of different responses is a great example of the reason everything was put into a minibus like this; taking even one of these issues out makes this a partisan dog-fight. Nobody wins if this doesn’t pass, we just go back to more fighting. Bottom line, this does a lot for maintaining the status quo and keeping as much insanity as possible out of our national debit account.

This is a solid bill. Let’s see it passed and ready to go by the time the fiscal year rolls over so we are shutting down our government any more. Make the president sign it or own another shutdown (again).
