Should Countries That Oppose the U.S. Position at the United Nations Not Get Foreign Aid?

Argument in favor

Countries that consistently oppose U.S. positions on matters brought before the United Nations General Assembly shouldn’t get foreign aid from the American taxpayer.

Kinda tricky the way the question and the summary are worded. My answer is to the summary. Why the hell are we giving money to countries that hate us?? This should be a no brainer. We need to stop giving away money we don’t have. The Obama administration brought us very near bankruptcy. Trump is doing a good job of turning it around but the corruption goes way way past Obama’s 8 years. It goes back decades and won’t be fixed by Trump alone. The corruption must be purged first but it is big and owns the news and social media, look at the brainwashed comments that have no clue what is happening. Trump has over 50% approval rating but some think “most disagree with him” also tho bill allows the president to still give money if it’s a national security issue, so you can see some didn’t even read it.

I’ve been behind that idea fir a long time as most often when the U.N. Bites on an anti Israel anti Semitic bill it’s only the United States that is there to protect Israel as even our closest allies France and Britain tend to show their anti Jewish tendencies! Yes by all means when our national interests and the interests of our close allies and our national conscience is at stake then cut them cut em off! It’s our tax dollars anyway! Like I’ve posted on Countable before I have no respect for the U.N. as that entity is for a one world government and is anti Christian and Jew! There is no mention of God in their charter! It is an Evil Globalist organization!

Would you give money to a company/person that is competing with you or tries to undermine what you’re doing? Well, you would if you were Obama & that ”company” was Iran. Just because you don’t give a country aid doesn’t mean that you‘re trying to like plot the destruction of that country & only in rare cases should America feel obliged to give aid.

Argument opposed

It would be spiteful for the U.S. to cut off foreign aid to countries simply for opposing the American position at the United Nations.

How closely this mirrors the childish, bullying ideology of the current president. Can we not act like spoiled brats with things like foreign aid that carry serious global implications?

Juvenile bill that makes us look like mobsters, sends a terrible message to our allies, especially while our child president* has been gutting our State Department and bankrupting our national values and credibility. Hope we can listen to national security & diplomatic experts and not succumb to this childishness that weakens us in the world even further. We should want honest feedback and diplomatic cooperation, not fealty!

It would be spiteful for the U.S. to cut off foreign aid to countries simply for opposing the American position and views. No difference than asylum seekers, Yemen, South Africa, South America, Middle East and others. The only people that are hurt are the poor! I am tired of the republicans and their party, Fox News and Sinclair playing the Victim when Caught in their Distraction and lies, then wrap their arms around the flag to save their ass. Two hours on C-SPAN from a Babbling idiot playing the victim!

This is akin to to holding other countries votes for ransom. If you don’t vote how we want you too we will stop helping you. How we give aide should be a separate issue.

A most definite no on that one. That almost sounds like our country’s views are the epitome of what is true and right and honorable. That sounds like the view of many in the Republican Party. That’s what the Donald has tapped into. Trump has redefined what is honorable and right to his party. That is scary.

Just because someone opposes an idea or action by America does not mean they should have funding cut off. Even despite the current “president’s” actions which the majority of Americans oppose, future Presidents may make decisions that other countries disagree with. We need to be better than our current third reich administration and know we will leave the kids table soon and be back at the adult table, so let’s start acting like intelligent adults.

Besides the fact that we have gained a reputation for being the biggest bully nation in the UN and have lost most of our allies doing so, foreign aid should not be dependent upon whether a nation agrees with the USA all the time or not. That would clearly make the USA a dictatorship. Oops. We are already heading there! Besides, Louie Gohmer is a complete fool and I would never support anything he came up with.

No. This is not how it works. This sounds outright juvenile: If you agree with me, I'll be your friend; if you don't, we're finished. Try some diplomacy and global relations next time.

We should award aid based on both the humanitarian and national security implications, which is done as it should be already. This bill is just silly, and should be opposed. You should probably oppose everything else this particular congressman supports, too, because that is the suggestion this bill's logic points toward. (Joke! Please evaluate his bills based on their merit.)

Foreign aid exists to buy influence. We need to get what we pay for.

No aid to countries that oppose our positions at the UN. If you had a neighbor who’s dog constantly crapped on your lawn, their kids threw rocks at your windows and slashed the tires on your car in the driveway, would you give them money? I didn’t think so. Same logic applies here. Our help comes with strings attached whether the world likes it or not.

When are we going to stop giving foreign aid to other Countries when it is more often than not lining the pockets of their respective Country leaders. Has any other Countries given aid to United States when we have national disasters.

This bill has gone up to Congress every year for more than a decade at least. It never even gets consideration because everybody understands that it’s stupid. Other countries don’t exist just for the benefit of the United States. And the United Nations doesn’t exist to force countries to vote lockstep against their own sovereignty interest. This is, was, and always will be a idiotic, spiteful, stupid idea.

If a country works against the US routinely, the odds are they don’t like us. Why would we give them money?
