Sad as it is, a lot of people have trouble opening wallets if they aren't getting something in return. It's why they have charity auctions and the like. Minting coins would play on this similar mindset, and do good as well.

This is an excellent, tax- free way to fund an organization that has tirelessly searched for a cure for breast cancer. To not use such a means to fund research because results haven't yet occurred is the definition of short-sightedness and ignorance towards scientific research.

Send your monetary donations to actual research facilities, and skip the middle man from collecting administration fees for widgets. That's how you support scientific advancements.

Minting the coins is not necessary. Breast cancer awareness is not a government concern. Researchers & citizens can work to improve awareness.

    What nonsense! A total waste of taxpayers' money! Who isn't already aware of breast cancer and the need for research?! It seems to me that drug companies aren't having too much trouble coming up with money to flood the healthcare market with drugs, many of which are approved prematurely, IMO. Surely Big Pharma can afford to conduct the necessary research before selling their drugs!

    Minting coins as commemoratives have to meet a criterion of making sales that exceed the tooling costs. I doubt If they would be more lucrative than wristbands already available.

    Minting a coin isn't going to bring more attention to breast cancer. When I spend my coins, I don't look at them to see what's on them. I just spend it. I know more about breast cancer than ever before. It's out there in the media everywhere!

    It's a nice idea, but I don't think that we should cherry-pick which cancer to sponsor. If anything, make a coin that supports all cancer research.

    Susan G Komen has their pockets filled everyday by the marketing schemes they already have in place. Their funding should not come from government sponsored sources. What about other types of female cancers, ovarian, cervical and endometrial? Thousands of women suffer and die from these also. Why should only breast cancer benefit?

    The federal government has no business in this sort of activity, and must stop finding new things for itself to do. Not only is our government ridiculously oversized, it has spent itself into a nearly unrecoverable debt. Focus on activities specifically enumerated in the Constitution, cut EVERYTHING else, balance the budget, and pay off the debt.

    The cancer research industry is already sitting on billions, where is our cure? They aren't looking for one. There a several cures already that they suppress, why would you give them more money? They even make money off of cancer causing products and even fracking. It's obvious they aren't doing their job.

    The ways Breast Cancer Awareness is promoted in media is enough to promote research. With organizations such as the NFL and WWE supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I believe the message is being spread well enough, to where this isn't necessary.
