house Bill H.R. 266

$484 Billion to Replenish Small Business Loan Programs, Reimburse Healthcare Providers, and Scale Up COVID-19 Testing & Tracing Capacity

Argument in favor

This bipartisan bill would replenish the popular Paycheck Protection Program so that it can provide more forgivable loans to American small businesses experiencing hardship during the pandemic. It would also provide funds for reimbursing healthcare providers and expanding COVID-19 testing & tracing capacity throughout the nation.

The government serves the people. It should do so all day, every day. I would like to see a bill to keep this kind of ridiculousness from ever happening again.

Now this makes a whole lot more sense than building a wall. Helping people vs. harming people. What happened to the golden rule. Please don't let the Trump affect turn you into a scrooge.

Thank you! This is what our country needs and we do support science, research and actively confronting climate change. We support our national parks and monuments and we expect our congressional delegates to do the same

Argument opposed

It may be bipartisan, but this “phase 3.5” COVID-19 relief bill doesn’t do enough to address many facets of the COVID-19 response and it’s unclear how soon Congress will be able to come together and pass a more robust “phase 4” package. State & local governments need significant funding to plug gaps in their budgets.

No, you give me my money back, and then I will decide how worthy each agency is of my money based on how much I value the good or service they offer. Just like I do with every transaction in the free market. I don't need you stealing my money and then spending it for me. I'm quite capable of doing my own spending.

Nothing in this bill is constitutional. Every issue here is more efficiently managed by its respective state.

We have so much debt we need to slow the spending. This isn’t about the wall this is about the fact government spending has outpaced inflation and revenue increases since the 1960’s!

Trump and the far right have held the government hostage for their stupid vanity project. Our national parks need to be cleaned up, repaired, and maintained after all the trash that has built up. The EPA needs to be refunded so that we can continue to protect our environment! This country doesn’t need protection from immigrants. We need protection from our insane President!

Open the government. I have family who work for the park service who aren’t able to pay bills because of this shutdown. Don’t hold these families hostage over a debate that has nothing to do with them. You have to resort to these slimeball tactics because you lost the election and now can’t get your wall. It’s time to respect the will of the people and how they voted in 2018. You’ll need to regain the majority in 2020 and get enough seats in the Senate and win the Presidency in 2020 to get the Wall you so badly want.

If it does what it proposes to do I will be happy and supportive. The first round was another boon for big money banks and large corporations who had a broad national presence without having more than 500 employees at each given location. Large restaurant chains and hospitality/ lodging facilities with lawyers on retainer were able to flood the system and get funded, bypassing the smaller small businesses which were the justification for the original allocations. Hopefully, big money won’t be allowed to rape these funding allocations this time. I like the funding for expanded testing. Hopefully that will encourage our administration to finally take a role in supplying much needed resources and provide coordination for state’s efforts in testing and reporting their findings in a consistent and common matter so we can finally get real data on the communicability, penetration and the locations of the Covid19 infection, like we should have been doing since early February. … … … The bigger issue is the phase 4 effort because we must get subsistence/stimulus resources to our people in need of support to survive, particularly if extended lock-downs will still be required in central states for awhile or if too many greedy governors try to get state revenues restored by opening up there states and causing another uncontrolled community spread which will rip through their state surely as well as through their neighboring states.

Please reopen the government. A wall isn’t worth this. You can squabble about border security while still keeping the government funded.

Open the government. Pay the people the wages they are owed. Save the “security theatre” for later where we can have an honest debate.

Can we bypass impeachment and just go straight to trump, his family and some of the republicans to be jail! The federal government shutdown is a political stunt To distract the Americans, at the federal and subcontractors employees expense. This is nothing but BS. There is no reason for this shutdown, the art of deal is nothing but lies and threats! It should be called corrosion, extortion and intimidation, gee sounds like the Russian and China mob. There is no Negotiation. Trump doesn’t know how to Negotiate. If you think these people deserve this, you are as sick as trump, but that is how he treated his employees, just look at this turn over in the White House and the investigation into his paying the immigrate that work for him or the lack of. He did care about the employees that work for him in the private sector and he definitely does care about government employees or you.
