house Bill H.R. 2359

Should the VA Report to Congress on its Holistic Mental Health Programming for Veterans?

Argument in favor

Mental and holistic health care for veterans is badly needed: 20 veterans die by suicide every day — an unconscionably high number. The VA needs to be held accountable for the mental health and holistic care it’s providing to veterans; reporting to Congress is one mechanism to ensure this accountability.

We owe our veterans for being willing pawns in all our unconstitutional wars. Get them everything they need, including cannabis and service animals, but more importantly STOP ALL THE U.S. WARMONGERING.

I’m sure that includes herb therapy and animal therapy as well right? They should have EVERY RESOURCE made available to them despite the current federal law or cost. If marijuana and support animals aren’t included, they should be.

(VETERAN) House Bill H.R. 2359 AKA the “Whole Veteran Act” I strongly recommend and support the passage of House Bill H.R. 2359 AKA the “Whole Veteran Act” which would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to submit a report to the Congress on the availability of alternative treatments (such as yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and chiropractic care) at VA medical facilities. On the basis of information about the cost of complying with similar reporting requirements, CBO estimates that implementing the bill would cost less than $500,000 over the 2020-2024 period; such spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds. Argument opposed

The VA is already systematically rolling its Whole Health program out across the VA health care system. Rather than diverting resources away from this important initiative to create the report this bill would mandate, it’d be better to let the VA focus on expanding and enhancing the Whole Health program to reach as many veterans as possible.

Paperwork is already in place to admit and care for our vets. All that’s necessary is computer tally of services rendered and to whom. Add additional admin staff for IT and leave this project to medical staff.

I’m a disabled veteran. Congress needs to stay out of the VA business. You can’t keep the congress healthy because if you did there wouldn’t be so many mentally disturbed people in congress.

Most definitely. Our veterans deserve the best health care this country can provide, the problem is they don't "provide" it. They need to seek alternative medical treatments for our veterans, since it's clearly been proven that the drugs they're using to treat our vets aren't working. We need to do more for our vets and I truly hope our lawmakers are paying attention and will do something worthwhile for a change.

YES! If there’s a veteran that’s honorably served this country and needs this help to get well, let’s do it. If a veteran can learn yoga and meditation at the VA, he or she can practice at home or possibly elsewhere in their community. This makes that person more self-sufficient and just might help them feel a little less isolated. I’m all for this.

Congress should know about every suicide and suicide attempt by a veteran whether it is at a VA facility or not, and they should do something about it. American citizens should see the statistics on a regular basis. Know that every number represents a human life wasted because the politicians wanted to wage a war to boost their egos. All of the recent wars that the US has engaged in (in the last 50 years) have been based on lies by politicians wanting to make themselves richer and more powerful, not to protect us or to save the world.
