Please, animal lovers, read the description. This life-revoking bill plans to re-legalize the import and export of ivory! Anyone with at least half a brain would know this means more elephants are to die, and for an already endangered species this bill could mean their end!
This bill has a very deceptive title. Please do not open loopholes for the import of ivory as there is no great way to determine when the ivory was sourced, thus leading to the continuance of poaching of these precious, intelligent creatures. While the bill appears to extend some resources for the protection of elephant wildlife by posting officers at US embassies, this overall does not prevent ivory production.
This bill reads good, but has more loopholes than a kitchen colander. Almost daily we read stories of elephants being slaughtered by ivory poachers. Placing a wildlife officer in a animal preserve sounds like finding drug bandits in the U.S. southwest. So, maybe this bill is a good idea, but it feels like there are hidden motives or someone seeking adulation. Public hanging of poachers sounds appropriate for killing elephants or 10 years for possessing firearm on public animal reserve.
Read the "yay" comments - it sounds like they misunderstood the bill because most are saying to save and protect wildlife and that's not what this bill does. Please consider that misunderstanding when "tallying" votes or deciding what to do.
