house Bill H.R. 2250

Waiting for the Omnibus: Funding the Federal Government for Five More Days

Argument in favor

A short-term budget resolution will give Congress five extra days — not only to finalize omnibus appropriations for 2016, but also ensure that the final omnibus bill can navigate the legislative process.

Screw you you need a pay cut. Down to minimum wage only for the hours you actually work to a maximum of 40 hours a week.

In addition, members of congress and the senate should not be allowed to make more money than the median wage in their district. That should include their congressional pay, investments, book, deals, and speaking fees. They would better understand the needs of their constituents if they had to live and work like them.

I work for the government as a civil service employee for the Department of the Air Force. I don't think it's fair for us to have a pay freeze and then congress votes a pay raise. It's practically unfair and unjustified for us while everyone else is making a lot more than we are

Argument opposed

If Congress had just met the arbitrary deadline they set for themselves this bill wouldn’t be necessary. Congress needs to be held accountable for its procrastination and not given extra outs any time they can't agree.

Can we talk about the fact that Congress STILL has the power to co-opt bills?

Stop spending $$$. Do the job you were hired to do, balance the budget and then we will see about a raise. Stop borrowing from China, tighten your belts and pay down /off the U.S. Debt

Suck it up. Can't accomplish what you were voted in to do, then no pay for you! Try working on minimum wage you bums. It's not a club membership it's a job you were voted into. You can just as easily be voted out.

Let me see: Congressional Base Pay is $174,000 a year in 2015; the U.S. median household income is about $54,000 as of last March. Hmm...I say Congress people should learn to live like the rest of us so that they can represent us better.

Congress pay should be cut and term limits imposed to prevent career politicians. New people with fresh ideas are required to prevent the decline of a society as we are seeing in our country now. Congress is a public service job, not a career. Pay should be comisserate with average middle class income.

Lol the against side said congress needs a raise. 😆😂 They'll get a raise when they get stuff done. And with the way it's looking now, I'll get promoted to editor in chief before they get their 💩 together.

It would make them so much less likely to shut down the government instead of working together

As inefficient as Congress is, we still need both parties to cooperate and come to an agreement on funding our government.

Congress is so overpaid it's a joke. They receive their full salary as pension, as well as their kids, and the starting salary is over 70,000 a year. And we wonder why our taxes are so much, it's going to things and people these criminals. Congress should be paid based on US approval, if they don't do a good job they get no money, because they WORK FOR US.

Government spending must be reduced across the board, gradually each year.

When haven't done your job, you don't get paid. You've all become millionaires while the middle class stagnates. Stop helping yourselves, and help the people you chose to represent.

Members of Congress should not receive pay in the first place. They should earn a living like the rest of us and SERVE for the duration of a term.

NOT UNTIL THE 30 YEAR FLAT SALARY PROBLEM HAS BEEN FULLY RESOLVED. NO ONE SHOULD GET ANOTHER RAISE UNTIL ALL WORKERS ARE EARNING A LIVABLE WAGE ON A 40 HOUR WORK WEEK....
