house Bill H.R. 1892

Funding the Gov’t Until March 23, Raising Budget Caps & Providing $89 Billion in Disaster Relief

Argument in favor

This bipartisan bill provides sufficient funding for national defense and domestic priorities along with much needed disaster relief. It's not perfect, but it's the best chance for Congress to provide stable funding for the government over the next two years.

As a Veteran, I totally support honoring our Fallen defenders. Fire fighters and police defend our communities with their lives every day and deserve to be honored if they die in the line of duty. But, we shouldn't stop at lowering the flag, we need to take care of these Patriots and their families in the same fashion as we do our military personnel. Granted, that's a matter for State level leaders but perhaps the Federal government can lead the way by ensuring our Federal level first responders are taken care of and perhaps adding a clause to FEMA that protects local first responders in the event of a terrorist attack or declaration of a disaster at which Federal resources are deployed; like Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy.

Members of Congress couldn't be bothered to read the entire healthcare bill, but this bullshit is being worked out? Come on

I'm voting YEA, but I really believe that the federal government should have no jurisdiction over when or why a governor of a state chooses to lower the flag to half-staff! IOW, I consider this a states' rights issue!

Argument opposed

It may be bipartisan, but this bill doesn't increase domestic spending by as much as it does defense spending and doesn't sufficiently offset the spending hikes, meaning it'll add billions to the national debt.

Why is Congress wastng time on this? It is already happening, and we don't need to make a Federal kerfuffle on such matters.

There are FAR MORE PRESSING issues that need to be focused on. This is a waste of time and money.

Although I find this very honorable and respectful, I do not believe this warrants the time, energy, and taxpayer money spent on a bill. I'm also concerned about what might be piggybacking on this bill and not specified

Shut it down. Close it up. End it. No more extensions of credit. By definition, we cannot afford it.

You people are ridiculous. This is the 5th CR passed since September, 2017. YOUR PRIMARY JOB IS TO FUND THE FREAKING GOVERNMENT. If you stopped procrastinating and made a single, honest attempt to get this done, we wouldn't be living with DJT threatening another government shutdown next month. In December, you punted until you got your tax scam through and went home for the holidays. In January you told the public you were close and then punted for another three weeks. Do you have any idea how moronic and irresponsible this makes you look? As far as the added Defense spending, how about you have the Pentagon find the missing $800M before increasing their budget? The government is already bleeding cash due to the irresponsible tax cut plan. Now you want the middle class to give more money to a department that apparently can't track what it already has? Sounds fiscally irresponsible - not that the GOP gives a damn about that anymore.

Sure but seriously with the real problems we have you want to vote on this? This is just padding your stats. Next up a bill that says a reasonable amount of sunlight is good.

We are lowering the flag too often and it has lost its significance. Leave the federal flag for presidents/national tragedies, and state flags for local events. Simple.
