Do Sanctions on Assad’s Supporters Need to be Increased?

Argument in favor

America needs to take a leadership role in ending the conflict in Syria peacefully. By giving Assad’s supporters a choice between increased sanctions or peace negotiations this will save the lives of innocent Syrians and allow war criminals to be brought to justice.

Most Definitely but with our President I doubt it because he will do anything Putin Tells him. We are in crucially DANGEROUS SITUATION for our Military and national security.

We should sanction most of the Middle East, IMO, because their religion promotes all forms of jihad, and the goal of that jihad is to convert, conquer, or destroy anyone who doesn't accept their beliefs. The people themselves are LOVELY people; they EXCEL in HOSPITALITY! And I love their language, music, and their cuisine! But their pernicious Islamic ideology, if not kept in check, will be the death of Western civilization!

Argument opposed

The U.S. shouldn’t be further involving itself in the Syrian conflict by sanctioning supporters of the Assad regime. Besides, there’s no guarantee that this bill would actually do anything to stop the regime and its Russian supporters from committing more war crimes.

We should not be putting any sort of sanctions on Syria or any foreign nation. The only country that we have the right to regulate is the USA. Let's get out of the business of regulating other countries and worry about our own country first.

Just get us out of Syria completely. We have much more pressing domestic issues that should have higher priority placed on them, such as the dismantling of the extremist groups that have begun to plague the nation, making crises worse by throwing riots over them and damaging the effected communities even more.

    This civil war has been going on for 7 years now. Let's not forget how it all began...with Assad firing on his own people because they were protesting his families long, authoritarian rule over Syria. We need to keep sticking the fight to Assad, and not let him to continue to murder his way to legitimacy.

    We need to take a strong stand against the Assad regime. He has decimated the Syrian nation and it's people. What a sad end to an ancient land and people! We must always consider Putin's support of this regime as part of a system of war crimes. Their support of Assad is not in the interests of the Syrian people or any of the nations around Syria.

    No. It's bad to do that economically. If we do that and our allies who are trading follow suit, we will only make more enemies. Leave Syria to it's lonesome or depose him. This is an all or nothing deal here.

    Please support sanctions against Assad and his supporters as a peaceful option in condemning Assad's regime and its crimes. The war has gone on too long, and increasing military efforts will do nothing to alleviate the destruction, only escalate it.

    We have recently been informed that Bashir al Assad has created concentration camps where defectors to his rule are rounded up and incinerated. When the leader of a country intends to quell dissent by purging millions of the innocent through death camps, that's when we should realize this is no ordinary dictator, this is a madman.
