Does the Secret Service Need a Division that Distributes Cyber Crime Info to States and Cities?

Argument in favor

Law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges need current information about cyber crime. DHS and the Secret Service should provide them with whatever insights they can.

All information should be shared between all branches involved

I think any extra help in fighting cyber crimes is necessary in this day and time before the hackers start shutting down our power grids, banks and nuclear power plants not to mention everything else in our nation that is computer reliant. Not to mention it will create jobs.

Sure - all the money, time, and energy they're spending protecting Melania and Barron can go toward this instead.

Argument opposed

There’s no need for law enforcement, prosecutors and judges to have one entity they can rely on for information about cyber crime, as other resources are available.

Couldn't this go into the FBI and not homeland security?

OMG, another Division. What about the FBI? The growth of Government is always trying to expand their budget and influence. However, there is a need for Cyber-crime protection that is pro-active and not post-active.

Do we really need another group that soaks up more of our money that does something that the FBI is perfectly capable of doing?

A division, no. Cooperation between agencies and sharing of info, yes. We have all the players and on't need to spend money in creating another layer.

I VOTE NAY! Quit looking for excuses to make government BIGGER and MORE EXPENSIVE! Besides, cyber crime should be handled by the FBI. As for the individual states, they are perfectly able to seek advice and/or help from Big Brother, if they feel there's a need. On a side note, is DHS doing anything about hardening the nation's electrical grids against the very big threat of an HEMP or EMP attack?! Or is that issue a "buck" that is getting passed from department to department? THIS SHOULD BE A TOP PRIORITY ISSUE FOR HOMELAND SECURITY! Or else, why do they even exist?!

It's becoming obvious that the campaign premise of "less government" was yet another lie. Just less in the sense of what most benefits you and your lobbyist.....

I do not like the expansion of Homeland Security. Why not the FBI?

The Department of Homeland Security should be eliminated. The Secret Service should be restricted to security of POTUS, other government officials, and the monetary system. All other domestic investigation and Security functions currently under the DHS should be handed off to the FBI. There are too many departments involved with investigation and security none of which talk to each other!

Do not need it, we already have departments to do this.

Why isn't this part of the regular operation of the DHS? Why add another costly department to the government? What's the point of the information gathering going on now if it's not to keep local police agencies informed?

Funding a new division doesn't solve the problem, give the job to the people already capable of fulfilling the role.

Dude after that big recent global cyberattack that affected 100,000 organizations in 150 countries, I think this will be extremely helpful. It's more layers of cyber security.

Cooperation between agencies, yes. Expansion of Homeland Security for something that should be in the purview of the FBI? Hell no.

As a former military intelligence op, I can say that sharing of information between agencies is very important and almost never happens. How many crimes could be stopped? Child pornography, planned child abductions, etc.
