If a Company Hires a lot of Veterans, Should They Get Priority for VA Contracts?

Veterans bring numerous skills to the workforce, and while hiring them is often a reward unto itself, this bill offers an additional incentive for companies to seek out vets to hire.

I believe hiring vets is very advantageous for companies as long as companies and the government doesn't muck it up with they're bureaucracy.

As a member of IAVA, I support this legislation and any other legislation that gets veterans into the workforce.
Argument opposed
This bill could create situations where companies hire veterans simply because they are veterans and it gives them a better shot at VA contracts — not because they’re the most qualified for the job.

We want efficiency, not cronyism. Selection must be made on the basis of merit.

While I applaud the hiring of veterans, Contracts should be awarded on a basis of merit and what each party has to bring to the table. Nepotism can often lead to inefficiency and worst case- corruption.

There is just not enough information to make an informed decision on this one. What are the nature of the contracts? What kind of businesses are these? Will it benefit all businesses or only a select group that actually is allowed to receive VA contracts? The GOV shouldn't be in the business of picking winners and losers based solely on the number of veterans they employ. Should businesses be rewarded for hiring veterans, absolutely; is this the right way of going about it, probably not

There should be incentives for businesses to hire vets. But winning contract should not be one of them. If businesses begin to game the system, the vets will be worse than they are today.
Companies already have incentives to hire vets, and it's not like they are the only ones unemployed and underemployed
There is already preference given to minority owned, women owned and veteran owned businesses and now reward companies for hiring veterans for preference to contracts just further dilutes the system. The heart is in the right place but it will just get manipulated by bureaucracy. Give more incentives for getting more unemployed working so they can give back to economy. All including our vets.

This is basically Affirmative Action for veterans without the "justification" of long time discrimination.
Our government needs to award contracts based upon cost, timeliness and quality of work. If there are multiple choices that meet the criteria then veteran hiring practices can come into play.
This is simple politicking. A business should get a contract because it can do the best job at the best price and not because it meets some political criteria. If this passes it will create a situation where cost and quality no longer matters, just how many veterans a company has.
This will allow our veterans to provide for themselves and their family by rewarding them for protecting our country. Even if they lack some skills compared to another worker that isn't a veteran, he still will be rewarded for risking his life for that other worker.
Yes. Many Veterans are being left out. Why do post-9/11 veterans receive benefits under the Family Caregiver Program but the older and sicker pre-9/11 veterans (World War 2, Korean War, Grenada, Somolia, Panama and other pre-9/11 conflicts) are left out? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g_Q_VCw_pA
