Should the EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard be Eliminated?

The EPA’s renewable fuel standard is an example of the federal government picking winners and losers in the economy to the detriment of consumers, who pay higher prices as a result.

Ethanol is renewable but at a huge cost. Subsidizing corn farmers to grow corn for fuel is nuts. This is what the US does. Holdover from when corn was to feed livestock and make high-fructose corn syrup etc. HFCS is now proven to be toxin food for humans. So of course the agribusiness lobby wants to continue to require ethanol be mixed in gasoline. Makes no sense. Subsidize farms to produce good non-toxic food. Not fuel. Subsidize research on new sources of renewable energy. Vote yes Feinstein, Harris and Peters!

Whether you want renewable energy or not is irrelevant (I do personally), this bill repeals the mandatory ethanol 10% requirement which does nothin to improve emissions or quality of fuel. What it does do is give subsidies to corn farmers which has its own problems across the board. A "yes" vote means that the government shouldn't be enforcing a specific way of meeting emission standards that benefit their constituencies at the expense of everyone else. It DOESN'T mean that you don't support renewable energy.

Everyone knows that alcohol belongs in a martini glass and not in a car engine. Alcohol, since its introduction into the "combustion" part of the engine had to be designed with parts that are non-reactive to alcohol or its combustion byproducts. Alcohol is water soluble, gasoline products are not. It's that oil and water problem like oil and vinegar for salad dressing. It's chemistry my friends. Unfortunately, our hard working farmers have "grown" accustomed to the corn market. Most farmers just grow and harvest corn while other types of businesses buy corn for producing alcohol and or derivatives. So many types of businesses will be affected as corn production acres are slowly fazed out. We may just find our vehicle getting better mileage and require less maintenance. Gone will be the "fruity" odors from the car exhaust. Hopefully, the bar tab will be less, but that aged whiskey will remain unchanged. Cheers!

The EPA’s renewable fuel standard is a necessary program that ensures gasoline is made in part with renewable fuel. Repealing it would hurt the ethanol industry.

It is horrifying that our elected officials continue to put gas company interests over American interests. Climate change and pollution MUST become a number one priority! This is the real "America first" issue. Stop putting greedy industries above our lives and future. Stop pretending they provide such great jobs! Sustainable energy provides more jobs and more stable work! Clean regulations level the playing fields between giant corporations with lobbyists and small business owners. There is no rational or factual argument that places the fossil fuel industry over America's health and wellbeing.

Please do not endorse any policy changes that are clearly only an attempt to put money in certain peoples pockets, rather than policies in the best interests of our people and our environment.

Vote no if you're in favor of tax-funded subsidies for corn! Vote no if you support corporate cronyism! Vote no if you've deluded yourself into thinking this has anything to do with the environment!
I totally agree with the following statement; “[This bill] is a step backward in energy policy, cutting the legs out from under a burgeoning cellulosic biofuels industry, denying consumers choice at the pump, and returning us to a petroleum only energy economy that brings nothing but price volatility and environmental disaster.” Vote No!
Some older vehicles aren't designed to run on ethanol. This is causing damages to their fuel systems, gaskets and seals in engines. Please stop mandating to subsidize corn.
Absolutely not! Any fuel or renewable energy will give more employment, cleaner air, diversified options and less dependence on oil and coal. The more options we have the better off we will be.
Eliminate ETHANOL because ethanol is a detriment to vehicle engines. - makes them sticky - causes lower miles per gallon- THUS COSTING MORE FOR THE CONSUMER & people go hungry because corn is grown to make ethanol instead of growing food people can eat. WHAT SHOULD BE HAPPENING IS A CHANGE OVER TO ELECTRIC & SOLAR POWERED VEHICLES. Those changes will create more jobs and lasting jobs. Oil is going to be passé before long. CHANGE NOW!!!
While ethanol is one of the least desirable renewables, this bill attempts to make oil the only fuel. So many energy renewable options exist, an amendment to the bill should include study and trial of used cooking oil, hydrogen, methane, electricity, anything with fewer emissions and less environmental harm. With the general ruthlessness of the Republican Party evidenced this year, I suspect Republican bills automatically. We would be remiss to reflexively trust their intentions, which have so far been to make the rich richer, get money from lobbyists, and harm if not kill the poor.
Ethanol ruins engines and does nothing for the environmental. Rather it is immoral to use food for fuel when people are starving around the world.
This literally has no effect on the environment you treehuggers. Look at the Nay reason and the ONLY reason it gives is that it hurts the ethanol industry. Government favoring one side.

Mandating ethanol in fuel is just a payoff to the agriculture industry masquerading as environmental sustainability. Using existing farm land for ethanol raises food prices, distorts the market, and does little to nothing to reduce pollution/GHG emissions.
Ethanol damages any and all gasoline combustion engines. Creates artificial demand for corn which should be used for feeding animals and people not ruining gasoline engines.
The United states is awash in cheaap oil and ethanol is a very expensive renewable. Head towards electric cars and feed corn to hogs.
