Engaging incoming voters, those coming of age 18, and encouragement of their involvement in the American voting privilege is a great investment in our country's future and can lead to more civic involvement and engagement at the youth and education level. Both wins for America.

As a teacher, I encourage my students (juniors and seniors) to be informed, to contact their legislators, and to voice their opinions. While I was taught the basics of the branches of government, these students are far more informed and want to participate. Giving them the education and opportunity to voice their own opinions will help our country in the long run.

I will be checking your voting record to see how you weighed in on this bill. This is critical for building a foundation of engaged voters in a strong democracy.

As someone who registered to vote on my 18th birthday, I think it's important that young people know their rights and responsibilities as citizens, and feel that they can impact their government. High school students have just learned all about how American government functions, and they should be able to put that knowledge into action. I think in many cases, 18 year olds do not register out of lack of knowledge of how to do so, or feeling that it won't matter, so providing them with information and resources would help them exercise their rights.

As a twelfth grade student, my peers and I need to be informed about the government. I've had friends tell me that they are not voting because it has no affect on them. The present ignorance in our society is a problem. In a previous comment it was stated that it should be the schools & the local communities job. Well they are not doing their job, so why should I suffer? Vote yes and allow federal funding to ensure we are getting the proper education.

We must educate our new generation of voters! Their future resides on their vote during elections! We have to do everything possible to increase voter turnout during elections. It's the foundation of our democracy and we currently have too many people who don't vote! Let's do everything we can to change that!

I would actually support doing this junior year also. Voting with a peer group increases participation among a group with little participation. Many seniors graduate or turn eighteen after senior year elections and are not included in the peer group voting.

While we are at it, why not fix the water problem in Flint Michigan? It should be every American's right to potable water. This national emergency has been going on for over 1000 days. Unacceptable! UN-American!

The youth needs to be engaged in politics before they graduate school.

I think that some students are more informed that a lot of grownups these years and i think students get to much little atencion

I absolutely love this. This is an excellent idea and will help engage students into politics and let their voice and opinion be heard. I only had one teacher who really explained and talked to me about politics. Every voice and opinion matters and if we can reach the next generation at a younger age how important it is to vote maybe we can avoid a lot of the problems that we are facing now.

Teach our students to be active participants in our democracy. This is our future. Please support it.

Students ought to have a voice. The decisions made today affect the world THEY will be living in when legislators die off.

The interest in how our democracy works is at an all time high. This is a great time to show students how it all works with accurate information and data.

We should absolutely engage new voters to get them invested in out democracy!
