house Bill H. Joint Res. 61

Keeping the Government Open Through December and Suspending Planned Parenthood Funding

Argument in favor

Congress needs to fund the government at least into December so that they can reach a longer term agreement. Cutting off funding for Planned Parenthood is a reasonable way to reign in the nonprofit while investigations continue.

So long as Obalmycare negatively impacts employment it would be possible to use this idea as a cudgel to find employment for Vets.

Argument opposed

Yet another short-term extension to keep the government open tied to a highly politicized measure. Can't Congress put aside their differences for once and pass a clean spending bill?

This is just another example of politicians using veterans as a way to further their own political agenda rather than actually taking action to support them.

Planned Parenthood cannot be used by the Republican Party and the religious right to hold the American public as political hostages. Everything PP does is legal and necessary, so get on with the job of running our country or vacate your office and allow someone more competent to the job take your place.

"I would look at the good aspects of [Planned Parenthood], and I would also look because I’m sure they do some things properly and good for women. I would look at that, and I would look at other aspects also, but we have to take care of women." [politico.com]

Yet again, congress is playing with the women's right to choose. Planned parenthood barely does abortions facts show they do nearly 3% of abortions. The money given to the agency helps those whose want mammograms and etc. Time for republicans to stop playing petty politics with women's health care. Unless you have a vagina and Fallopian tubes and can carry a baby for 9 months than don't talk about women's health because you don't no a damn thing about it. -Future Congressman DeNeiro

How much federal money goes towards providing abortions? Oh yeah, none. Fund PP, you know Obama will veto any bill that doesn't have PP funding in it and you know that you don't have the votes for an override. You're wasting time and money on another "show" vote.

Accepting this exemption as an incentive tacitly admits that the employee healthcare requirement is enough of a drain on business to make this attractive. If you can admit this, then why not eliminate it in the first place? It was passed on the promise of being better for all, if that is not the case, then get rid of it completely.

Congress just had 5 weeks off, they could have worked on this then, but no lets hold America hostage and continue doing anything for the middle and working class.
