Supporting the Establishment of a Museum Memorializing Victims of Communism

Argument in favor

From the famines, purges, and gulags of the Soviet Union to Mao’s Great Leap Forward and the Killing Fields of the Khmer Rouge, communist regimes have killed nearly 100 million people over the past century. Congress should support a museum to memorialize those victims and preserve this history for future generations to learn from.

Usually I would say no to this kind of stuff, but I think you socialists need a reminder of the atrocities that result from your method of governance.

While ANTIFA, some BLM groups, and other progressives go about rewriting history and glorifying socialists, leftist-Marxist, and communist ideals and its leaders, we must have a massive push-back to share the truth of what these brutal despots—the tyrants with which the left has always had a love affair—have exacted on their own citizens...ruthless purging of those that don’t fall in line. Sound familiar? Just be a conservative and try to speak on a college campus! I say, “Vote yeah!” It is only one strategy to ensure this generation and those that follow, know history, and hopefully not repeat it.

Argument opposed

There’s no need for a museum to highlight the atrocities committed by communist regimes and honor the victims of, and dissidents who fought against such oppression. Congress has more important things to do than worry about museums that could get built on federal property. This will anger communist regimes in places like China.

This would serve as propaganda to promote capitalist oppression. These weren’t communities regimes; they were fascist regimes under the guise of communism, much like our country is a plutocracy under the guise of democracy.

Seems like a waste of money considering the direction the country has headed. Also seems pretty hypocritical considering imperialism isn’t much better, and we’re guilty of that.

It is far more important for America to memorialize the victims of lynchings in this country; the continuous ignorance and refusal to accept slavery and racism in American history is obscene. Forget the victims of communism, the victims of racism and slavery deserve to be at the forefront.

A totally arrogant idea. A ridiculous waste of time and money. How about a museum on how this fake president is destroying this country.

Capitalism has all the propaganda it needs, and all the budget it needs to buy more. So go ahead and build your propaganda palace, but not with our tax dollars, and only if half of this so-called museum is dedicated to the victims of capitalism. This would naturally include the millions of Americans currently addicted to opioids, all those rendered homeless and bankrupt by a rapacious and increasingly unchecked banking industry, 300 years of oppression of brown and black people (with a special emphasis on the lasting impacts of slavery), the theft of the entire Western United States from the indigenous peoples who lived there, and so on. In other words, a hard no.

While we have a dictatorship in the making taking money from the middle class and poor to place in the pockets of the wealthiest -1% no! Cutting taxes Of the wealthy while wildly spending money on frivolity is the hallmark of this GOP of #45s. Money for food, healthcare, housing, education, real justice, and reform is a great idea. Squandered meaning-less expenditures are not.

Socialism relies on the notion that everyone can live at the expense of everyone else. Communism relies on the notion that from each according to their ability to each according to their need. The first notion is unsustainable and the second notion is slavery. The museum is long overdue, make it so!
