Should Congress Express Support for Hosting the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Canada & Mexico?

It would be great for the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to jointly host the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Congress should take the simple step of expressing its support would help make it happen.

Tourism will flourish within the United States which only adds to the economy. I don’t really see any down sides to this.

The FIFA World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico will be a huge boost to the economies of all three countries, specifically in the inner cities which are some of the most impoverished aside from rural communities. This would be a positive step forward and will go a long way to show the European Union and the Asian Tigers that we are still an economic powerhouse

We, Canada, and Mexico have the existing facilities in place so no significant new construction is needed. It is the world’s game. The primary question is can our Senators and Representatives (read Republicans) put aside their racism, bigotry, and xenophobia in order to welcome the world?

Whether or not North America’s United Bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2026 is successful is none of Congress’s business, and lawmakers expressing their support for it won’t help.

I love soccer, and I would love to see the World Cup on US soil, but Congress has bigger things to worry about.

Congress should only watch the game. Let the league pick the time and place. Doesn’t Congress have a job? Just stick to government business and stop nosing into private affairs.

We have homeless and starving people in this country, too. Most of the time billions need to be spent on structures, housing, security and infrastructure for these types of events. I think that money is better spent on the nation as a whole, not on some sports ball contest played by millionaires on teams owned by billionaires. Besides, you already have your trillion dollar multi-front wars. What else do you need?

This is not Congressional business just a distraction while they destroy the environment and transfer wealth to the 1%.

So with all of our problems, North Korea, Iran, terrorists, mass shootings is our schools, rising gun crime and gas prices....Congress has decided to gather and express support for something it doesn't control......Great.

Anything that helps bring the countries of North America together is a good thing. There has been way too much divisiveness lately.
A unified North America would be an outstanding idea for a World Cup
These events often take resources that could be used for general infrastructure and devote them to this one event.
Congress should be focusing on more urgent matters - little is getting done and has been done in the past year
Congress — and the overall scope of the Legislative Branch — should be limited to the enumerated/delegated powers of Congress expressly given to that body in the Constitution! The fact that they waste so much time and monetary resources weighing in on matters like international soccer flies in the face of the very Constitution members have sworn to uphold.
Canada or Mexico. Soccer is a great sport that I love very much. Unfortunately the US is currently very poorly equipped to handle the event in terms of infrastructure and suitable venue cities able to accommodate the volume of supporters it would bring in.
