We urge you to pass SB 270 that bans single-use carryout bags. The bill that has been presented before your legislative bodies represents a practical, adaptive and common sense solution to the plastic pollution epidemic clogging up our State's waterways, drainage infrastructure, coasts and oceans.
California has distinguished itself as a National leader in conservation policy and passing this bill is a way to exemplify the state's leadership role.

The United Nations Environment Programme estimates that there are 46,000 pieces of plastic litter floating in every square mile of ocean. Plastic bags are modern day tumbleweeds that can be seen floating in the sea and across the land. Although the plastics industry is trying to convince consumers that recycling is the best solution to fixing the plastic bag plague on our environment, recycling plastic bags is very difficult and energy inefficient. Most plastic bags end up in our landfills and thousands of them end up on our beaches and waterways. Now is our time to join together to pressure California representatives to take a leadership role to pass a plastic bag ban.
