Vote to see how others feel about this issue
What’s the story?
- The Commerce Department said on Wednesday that retail sales increased .5 percent last month, as households upped their purchases of cars, food, and clothing.
- The jump was well above the .1 percent increase forecast by economists polled by Reuters.
What’s the reason for the uptick?
- A tightening labor market – which is steadily pushing up wages – as well as tax cuts and higher savings are being credited for the rise in sales.
