Louisville Shooting Gun Will Be Auctioned Off
Tell your reps to pass gun control now.
Updated April 12, 2023
- Officials say the gun, a legally purchased AR-15-style rifle, used in the fatal shooting in Louisville will most likely be auctioned off to the public.
- Under Kentucky law, confiscated guns, including those used in homicide cases, are returned to state police and then can be purchased at public auctions. All the auctioned-off guns have a warning label: "Deadly weapons like this one caused 146 homicides by gunshot wound in Louisville in 2022. Fourteen of those deaths were children."
- Mayor Greenberg criticized this law at a news conference after the shooting:
"Under current Kentucky law, the assault rifle that was used to murder five of our neighbors and shoot at rescuing police officers will one day be auctioned off. Think about that. That murder weapon will be back on the streets."

- Police identified the shooter as a 23-year-old white man who was an employee of the bank. He was killed by law enforcement at the scene of the shooting. According to interim police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroe, the shooter was live-streaming during the crime.
- Nine patients are being treated at a local hospital, including two police officers. One officer and two civilians are in critical condition.

What’s the story?
- On Monday morning, a shooting in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, left five people dead and six injured. The Louisville Metro Police Department said the suspected shooter is dead, and there is no longer an active threat in the area.
- The shooting occurred at the Old National Bank Building across from Louisville Slugger Field, a minor league baseball stadium. Earlier this morning, police reported an “active aggressor” in the area and urged people to stay away from the site. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said in a tweet:
“Please avoid the area around Slugger Field until further notice. We will provide information as soon as possible.”
- FBI special agents, officials at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and state law enforcement are investigating the shooting. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced he was heading to the crime scene. He said:
“Please pray for all families impacted and for the city of Louisville.”
- The details of the gunman’s death and motive have not yet been released.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.

This shows conclusively that law enforcement is perfectly comfortable with people having AR-15s, as long as they make a profit from it.
If they actually saw it as a threat to them, they would keep it or destroy it.
So now the truth finally comes out. The alleged perpetrator explained in his notes that he shot people... in a demented attempt to show how easy it is to kill people, and to support anti-gun lobbying.
Does anyone else see the irony that this was gun violence perpetrated intentionally by anti-gun advocates to further their agenda?
Does anyone else find it disturbing that people who claim to hate gun violence... perpetrate gun violence... to keep their numbers up?
It's pretty sick to kill people just to pad the numbers to influence public opinion and support your goals.
Also, this never would have happened if there were an armed guard at the bank in the first place. The alleged perpetrator was so ignorant about firearms that he threatened someone with an unloaded weapon with the safety on. While he fumbled with that, an armed guard would have had ample time to subdue him and prevent such a tragedy.

I hae to say, the gun was a tool used by a maniac and because it is legally auctioned off to another as a legal weapon does not violate any gun law......It may become a colletors item of which in museums across the country there are guns of a hstorical background on display........So what's with the outrage and this rush to ban guns????
Every time there's another mass shooting I cannot help thinking about the children massacred at Sandyhook. One child was shot nearly a dozen times. Was there anything identifiable left of him? Thought for sure something would've happened regarding weapons of war at that time. WRONG!!! Instead the parents of the murdered children have been harassed by the right wing talk show crazies. The murderous rampage has been called a hoax adding to the pain and loss of these kids.
Are you f***ing kidding me?! These people are out of their f***ing minds! No one needs a military style weapon. For what purpose? They are used for war, not hunting! Batshit crazy nutjobs can walk into a gun shop and purchase a military style gun...yeah, that's smart. When will this madness be stopped?! Common sense is nowhere to be found! No more bowing down to the NRA and the batshit crazy nutjob politicians! Time to clean up this insane behavior that's been allowed to fester and grow. Military style weapons should not be sold in stores...only on military bases. Makes sense to me.
Auctioning off a confiscated firearm used in a crime should not be allowed. God forbid that a chance for making money be lost. Once again, it's all about the money. All confiscated firearms should be immediately destroyed as soon as court proceedings are over. If the gun was stolen, the owner should be charged with negligence. If the gun is owned by the perpetraitor and is alive, they should have all their guns cinfiscated and "black listed" so they can never again own or have possession of one. Responsible gun owners shouldn't have to worry about losing their weaponry unless they mess up. No one is perfect. Not even our politicians who need to wake up to that fact. But they're too damn busy dishing on the opposite political party to really care about the common good. Sucks! But that's the jist of ot.
Stupidity reigns in KY and throughout the Republican Party. What a trophy for a racist, maga show off, anti government fool, or other mass shooter. Absolutely ridiculous! I hope whoever buys the gun destroys it and donates to a gun reform organization. #voteidiotsout #savealifevoteDem
The NRA is coming to TN for a big wing ding loaded with Republican wants bes. I guarantee no guns will be allowed. Frightened Republicans are fine sacrificing children but god forbid they should chance facing gun fire. Pathetic hypocrites!
What the hell is wrong with you people who want to auction off an AR firearm that killed and wounded people?? Where the hell are you F**KING brains?? Why the hell would you want to do this? Whoever thought of this needs to have to see a psychiatrist now and I am not joking about this!
Any type of gun/ammo this shooter had needs to be destroyed, NOT auctioned off!
I've heard all kinds of stupid things, but this has got to be one of the most stupidest idiotic things I've ever heard!
No gun used in a violent crime should be allowed back into circulation-destroy the damn thing, so that there is one less gun to end someone's life. Better yet, ban the sale and possession of ssault style guns-PERIOD!!!!!
We the people, want to be able to go to school, go to pray in all places of worship, go to stores, malls , concerts, and walk down our streets SAFER. Congress must act!
While we wait, to venture out we all need body armor and helmets!
While the police were responding to this mass killing, there was another shooting incident several miles away at a university that there are not a lot of details about, I expect no one was killed at the second site - but not necessarily becuase the shooter did not try,
These mass killings with assualt-style semiautomatic weapons with high velocity rounds and large magazines have become somewhat normalized in our country and our Republican Federal and State legislator's still will not budge toward banning these weapons.
Lousville police were on-site in something like three minutes and yet some 13 people were shoot and 4 killed, 2 in ICU;s with crirical injuries.
Anybody who has a mental break or a very bad day has the means to acquire these weapons and have an established model for how to get even and go out with a 'bang' - and our legislative inaction is their ticket to get into this theater of death and be the star of the show.
Most Americans: we NEED reasonable gun control laws & semiautomatic weapons off the streets.
Republicans & NRA: wash, rinse, & repeat
Until the stances on guns & women's rights change, I will not vote for anyone, regardless of party, who doesn't represent my views on these two issues.
Damn Republicans-WE NEED COMMONSENSE GUN CONTROL NOW!!!!! Your damn thoughts and prayers are pure bullshit. Ban the damn assault-style weapons.
Beyond doubt that a good segment of the population has gone mad
Auctioning a gun that has been used in a mass shooting? so it can be used to kill more innocent people? How depraved and brain bereft can you be?
common sense would dictate that all such weapons be confiscated and destroyed as well as enforce NO GUNS except hunting clubs or shooting range!
the only conclusion
congress is stupid
judiciary is stupid
'conservatives' are beyond stupid
time to move to another country!
Just heard a Governor say take guns away from those who are dangerous. So do they raise their hand if they are dangerous or is there a litmus test to identify them. Did people really vote for him. It is extremely sad so many were killed or wounded. But I am not sure how you find those dangerous ones.
Wouldn't do me any good to address my senators and representative as I live in South Dakota where people still use guns to put meat on the table. Besides our state government makes good money from "out of state" hunters. Granted, an assault rifle with plenty of amo would be nice to have just in case "martial law" was decreed. I have ancestors who fought for the liberties that are being striped away from us today. I will stand my ground against any one tries to take those liberties away and am willing to lay down my life to keep the rights given us not only by the constitution but the "free will" given all human beings by the Divine.
"Guns don't kill people, people kill people." The responsibility belongs to the gun owner and no one else. If they can't be responsible for keeping their firearms out of the hands of family members, friends, and thieves, they should not be allowed to own any gun. Should their gun comes up missing they should be fined to the highest amount possible and if their gun is used in a killing of any kind, they should be charged for aiding in said crime. Ownership should be screened thoroughly before any purchase is allowed. A record of violence whether domestic or other wise criminal, anger issues, and psychological problems should be on top of the list. Wish they would treat alcoholics with such efforts as they do guns. I'd rather be in the company of "pot smokers" than a bunch of drunks. Smokers are too laid back where as a drunk can turn violent in the blink of an eye.
Several General Assembly sessions ago Some SMART PERSON attempted to get legislation on RED FLAG LAWS...
AMAZINGLY my then good for nothing GOP Senator was going to co-sponser and help it along. HE and the Bill got shot down.
PERHAPS...had it been voted in the 4/10 MASS MURDER would not have happened. But there is still the PESKY FEDERAL Assault Weapons Ban waiting to be renewed also!!!!
The BLOOD BANK had to provide 170UNITS OF BLOOD for the victims...not the *already dead* JUST THE VICTIMS.
IF TRAUMA SURGEONS had to call for and use 170 UNITS OF BLOOD to save lives...PICTURE FOR A MOMENT what the INSIDE of the OLD Nat'l Bank, the Ambulance, the ER looked like.
Got that in your mind's eyes? IT is DISGUSTING...and so if the GOP that offers only platitudes instead of real solutions....
I say go to Massie and Comer and McConnell and Paul and ALL the friggin GOP and DEMAND they donate blood...because they have been TAKING THE BLOOD MONEY FOR DECADES!
Massie, McConnell and Paul will only send me a nameless, "Gee thanks for contacting us about this issue" email.
and I EXTEND my middle finger to you all.
Causes asks: "Tell your reps to pass gun control now" ME: Why bother? My trumian GOP rep, Doug Lamborn, is probably, in passing, considering offering "thoughts and prayers" and looking for whatever gun congrol legislation he can veto.
