ICC Issues Arrest Warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin

Do you think the ICC should arrest Putin?

Just another nail in the putin's coffin. It may take years to finish nailing it shut, but another nail certainly helps.

I would love to see the putin arrested and put into one of those Russian court cage things. This indictment from the ICC is just for one limited but clearly visible war crime of taking children away form their parents to be reprogrammed by Russian families.

There are many more war crimes that will and should be coming. No one can be allowed to engage in willfully killing civilians, destroying civilian infrastructure for power, food and water, using banned hyperbaric and hypersonic weapons against civilian targets, and trying to ethnically erase a people for no other reason than the putin's desire to become the reincarnation of Peter the Great.

The Putin has broken most of the treaties and norms that have mostly maintained the world order since World War 2 and cannot be allowed to escape acccountability for his actions.

I would think that it might also be a war crime to throw poorly armed and untrained Russian citizens into frontline suicide missions to satisfy the putin's ego.

Autocrats with great power, control and propaganda outlets cannot be allowed to even partially succeed or else they will not stop - and that is true for would be autocrats everywhere, including those autocratic 'leaders' that are growing iin number within this country.

This is absolutely amazing and this will do nothing more than force Putin to continue his war efforts with more vigorous tactics that would make what he has done so far seem like he has been playing tiddlywinks.

What would he have to loose if he now decided to use tactical nuclear weapons to permanently destroy the Ukraine military. If as the news is reporting that the Ukraine military is destroying so much Russian military equipment and killing so many Russian soldiers are we sure they aren't also committing war crimes by the Ukraine government? If you listen to the US news the Ukraine has destroyed all but two tanks and one fighter jet and killed 150,000 Russian soldiers and the Ukraine forces has lost two tanks no airplanes and one cannon. They also have lost 5 soldiers and the Russians have killed nearly two dozen civilians half being children and old women.
The ICC now has released a world wind that give Putin nothing to loose in the remainder of the war. As the war goes on and like the USA did in both Vietnam and Afghanistan and we talk about it has been a decade since Russian forces went in to Ukraine then we will have no one to blame but the ICC and this decision.

Many, many years ago there was a USSR scientist who experimented with inbreeding humans and apes or gorillas.  The experiments reportedly did not succeed.  BUT, when I see a picture of Putin, I can't help but think about that experiment.  To me, he looks just like an ape in human disguise.  His animal instincts show through quite clearly through his actions.

As far as I'm concerned, Putin should have been jailed YESTERDAY, before the courts today, and executed tomorrow.  I realize that justice is slow but this is something that needs to be acted upon ASAP.  It has come to the point that I am fed up with all his nonsense and wish the ICC would move a great deal faster.

Of course they should arrest they should put him in the same cell with Donald Trump, Kevin McCarthy, Ron DeSantis and a few others because really they're all the same person in a different skin.

yeah, but its purly symbolic. We should hold our own officials to the same level. Charge Bush jr for war crimes, and Obama too, for the continued illegal detention and torture at Guantanamo's prison. and thats just a start. The equally specious argument that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction never enjoyed such a powerful hold on the American imagination as the belief that the war in Iraq could be justified as payback for 9/11.
It was a powerful piece of disinformation that became so deeply embedded in the American consciousness that it was nearly impossible to dislodge. As with any good propaganda campaign, the Bush team was careful and lawyerly in making its case. In his public statements, Bush himself never explicitly said Saddam was responsible for 9/11; but he constantly used language in speeches and other public statements linking Saddam with terrorism, and he talked more broadly about connections between Iraq and Al Qaeda-style militancy.  meanwhil, Obama Tens of thousands of Iraqis in the early years of the war would pass through interrogation and detention sites where CIA agents, military intelligence, military police, private contractors, special operation, and ordinary soldiers inflicted abuse that no longer gets cloaked by euphemisms: It was torture.

There is no question about it.  He's a monster and needs to be locked away in a cage.  He does not deserve to be free to do as he pleases.  He has slaughtered innocent people, destroyed their homes, and has caused thousands to flee.  All this for fun!  Land grab game!  Either arrest his ass or take him out.  You choose.  I'm for arrest and making him suffer greatly for this, both mentally and physically.  Do not feel sorry for a batshit crazy demented monster!  Anyone who thinks what he's doing is fine, well, you do not belong here in our country!  You like him so much, then you go and live under his rule.  That's not democracy!  You who want to end democracy in our country, do not deserve to live in it.

Putin is a criminal guilty of all manner of war crimes and crimes against humanity. It is my hope that the first time that he steps out of the country he will be arrested and tried.

Yes, I think he should be arrested.  That being said, issuing a warrant will do little good as he will simply ignore it.

It is illegal to take kids that don't belong to you away from their parents or countries.  It is called kidnapping and it is a federal crime in most all of the countries of the world.  Vlad should be in the Netherlands right now awaiting his trial and they should also add war crimes to it!

Kidnapping is usually a domestic crime.  A leader of a country that is doing it is an act of war and as such was turned over to the Hague, which is exactly what they are there for!  They are the best!  They will find him and bring him to justice and begin locating and returning the children.

    Yeah--right...

The Hague should send a couple of police officers with a pair of handcuffs to Moscow.

Of course, that's not going to happen.

The warrant is a message to the world about just how far off the rails Putin's Russia has gone.

CAUSES ASKS: "Do you think the ICC should arrest Putin?"  ME:  Of course.  That he is a war criminal dates back to even before his 2014 illegal invasion and annexation of Crimea, well before his most recent illegal invasion of Ukraine and further illegal annexations of Ukranian territory.  To get a sense of these and the truly sick Russian idiology behind Putin's eternal desire to destroy truth, history, the rule of law, and the West, read the internationally recognized iminent historian Timothy Snyder's 2018 book, "The Road to Unfreedom: Russia, Europe, America".  Much of today's GOP rhetoric will then sound quite famiiar.

I wish for arrest, conviction, and life sentences for all those in power who destroy lives, liberty, freedom, and democracy through the dissemination of lies and the abuse of power and wealth. And while spending the rest of their lives incarcerated, may they come to see and understand the grave errors of their ways.

While arrest is not going to happen it will symbolically make him persona non grata to signatories (which does not include Russia and the US.)  However, it creates a record that he is a war criminal, whether he ordered or condoned criminal activities.  We cannot enforce agreed to standards outside our own sovereign borders but we must speak out against megalomaniacs that consider themselves not subject to the same moral constraints that govern civil society.  (And unfortunately, let's not forgot US misdeeds in the last twenty years or the Japanese refusal to apologize for their criminal actions during WW II.)
